When St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol learned his team had an unusual Saturday off during a series, he asked if he could make it to a World Cup match. The international soccer tournament is being held across 16 sites in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including 11 markets that are also home to Major League Baseball teams. Kansas City is hosting six World Cup matches at the NFL stadium within the same complex as the Royals’ ballpark. The Cardinals and Royals are both off on Saturday, when Ecuador plays Curaçao. Marmol confirmed he intends to attend the match, saying, 'That is the goal, yes.' Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino and his wife, who played soccer at Old Dominion, also plan to be there. 'It’s strange, but it’s special circumstances,' Pasquantino said.
