A class action lawsuit filed against SpaceXAI and Stability AI alleges the companies' AI tools were used to make sexually explicit images of children.

Three Jane Does, two under 18, filed a lawsuit against xAI yesterday about the generation of child sex abuse material (CSAM) on Grok,
Elon Musk
's AI tool.
"Like a rag doll brought to life through the dark arts, this child can be manipulated into any pose, however sick, however fetishized, however unlawful," the
complaint
states. It goes on to allege that while other AI companies recognize the dangers of AI and put up guardrails to prevent child sex predators from using them, "xAI did not."

Grok Maker xAI Faces Non-Consensual Sexual Deepfake Class Suit
X.AI Corp. failed to implement safeguards that would prevent the creation and proliferation of thousands of non-consensual deepfake images on X, formerly known as Twitter, a class action suit alleged.
The maker of X’s AI chatbot Grok knew the danger the technology could pose to women and girls but “has chosen instead to capitalize on the internet’s seemingly insatiable appetite for humiliating non-consensual sexual images,” according to the complaint filed Jan. 23 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

The lawsuit comes amid increased global government scrutiny of how Grok is being used to create and distribute sexual deepfake imagery. Canada recently
announced
it was expanding an investigation that it launched in February 2025, and earlier this month Japan announced a probe into the chatbot’s role in spreading sexualized imagery of people without their consent. The EU also

In a complaint filed in federal court in northern California Monday, lawyers for the three teens — named only as Jane Doe 1, 2, and 3 — accuse Grok's parent company xAI of "shattering" the girls' lives by doing almost nothing to prevent the chatbot from generating child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
"Nearly all the companies creating, marketing, and selling AI recognized the dangers of such a tool and chose to enact industry-standard guardrails that would prevent the use of their products child sex predators. xAI did not," the complaint reads.
"Instead, xAI — and its founder Elon Musk — saw a business opportunity: an opportunity to profit off the sexual predation of real people, including children."

Deepfake Victims Bolster Class Action Against xAI, Add Stability AI ...
Amended class action complaint includes new plaintiffs alleging Grok generated AI CSAM of them, and names Stability AI as a new defendant.
Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein and Baehr-Jones Law filed an amended class action complaint today in the Northern District of California against xAI and Stability AI. The amended complaint adds two new plaintiffs whose family photographs were used to generate child sexual abuse material (CSAM) through xAI’s Grok app and alleges that xAI obstructed a law enforcement investigation into that abuse. The complaint also names Stability AI as a new defendant over its open-weight AI models, which were allegedly trained on CSAM and released without adequate safeguards, allowing them to serve as the basis for third-party “nudify” apps.
“xAI and Stability AI knew their AI models capable of producing explicit deepfakes of adults would be equally capable of producing deepfake CSAM. Yet these companies made the reckless business decision to unleash this unsafe technology on society with complete disregard for the devastation they knew would follow,” saidAnnika K. Deepfake CSAM Lawsuit Against xAI and Stability AI Expands
Deepfake CSAM Lawsuit Against xAI and Stability AI Expands
In July 2026, a class-action lawsuit against xAI, the developer of the AI tool Grok, was expanded to include two additional plaintiffs. These individuals allege that Grok was used by acquaintances to generate nonconsensual deepfake child sexual abuse material (CSAM) based on their real photos. The lawsuit also names Stability AI as a defendant, claiming that its Stable Diffusion model facilitated the creation of such illicit content. The plaintiffs report significant emotional distress and a loss of control over the dissemination of these images.
This incident underscores the urgent need for robust safeguards in AI technologies to prevent misuse, particularly in generating harmful content. It highlights the growing legal and ethical challenges companies face in ensuring their AI models are not exploited for creating nonconsensual and illegal material.
The expansion of the lawsuit against xAI and Stability AI emphasizes the critical importance of implementing stringent safeguards in AI systems to prevent their misuse in generating harmful content. This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential for AI technologies t…
