The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has given a temporary exemption for aerial surveillance of Coogee Beach after a woman, aged in her 30s, was critically injured by a shark on Saturday.
Sustaining flesh wounds to her leg and arm, the woman, who was swimming between the flags when she was attacked, remains in a critical but a stable condition, St Vincent's Hospital told AAP on Monday.
Surf Lifesaving NSW public safety manager Brent Manieri confirmed the CASA ban was lifted to allow drones to fly across several beaches for the rest of the week.
"We will be operating ... to ensure there's a level of aerial surveillance that the community can feel safe and assured in when they want to come back down and have a swim," he told ABC on Monday.

Experts warn there is little evidence shark culls keep ocean-goers safer following the latest shocking encounter at a busy city beach.
A coastal community have been left shaken after a woman, understood to be in her 30s, was critically injured by a shark at Sydney's popular Coogee Beach on Saturday.
A great white shark, which is a protected species, is thought to have been responsible.
It follows a cluster of attacks nationwide, including several bull shark bites in Sydney Harbour.
The latest incident has reignited calls for culls to protect swimmers, which NSW Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty has not expressly ruled out.
Adelaide University program director of environmental science Brianna Le Brusque said harmful encounters with the predators were tragic and cull discussions an understandable response.
But she said there was no science on how many animals would need to be removed to keep swimmers safe nor evidence it would meaningfully improve community safety.
Surveillance methods to alert swimmers were more effective, though complicated by a flight path keeping drones out of the air around Coogee.
There were other detection options, Dr Le Brusque told AAP, including em…

COMMUNITY appealed in Coogee Beach, New South Wales, Australia
A shark attack that critically injured a woman in front of shocked swimmers has reignited calls for culling as a community reels from the incident off a popular beach.
And the NSW government is not ruling out the measure.
The attack happened about 20-30 metres from shore and between the flags at Sydney's popular Coogee Beach about 11am on Saturday.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was airlifted to hospital after being brought from the water by an off-duty lifeguard.
The incident has prompted NSW independent MP Rod Roberts to call for a shark cull in the interests of community safety.
NSW Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty did not rule it out on Sunday.
"Nothing is off the table in terms of how we keep the community safe," she told reporters.
Shark nets would be installed on September 1 and the government was seeking expert advice from the Department of Primary Industries, Ms Moriarty said.
Mitigation programs included drone surveillance and shark tagging.
"We swim in the ocean with living, breathing animals and we have to share the ocean every day," she said.
Mr Roberts said swimmers needed to be protected.

Contested · 1 — sources conflict; shown, not resolved
⚔ Age specification conflict: 'in her 30s' is a range; '35' is a specific age. Both can be simultaneously true, but the specificity of 35 contradicts the imprecision of 'in her 30s' as a categorical claim. The claim 'in her 30s' does not assert 35 is impossible, but the sources present them as distinct descriptors — one general, one exact — and are treated as separate factual assertions.
