The son of a Mexican national who was shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Houston on Tuesday is calling for an independent investigation into what occurred.
"He did not deserve to die. He did not deserve to be reduced to a headline of 'Mexican man shot and killed by ICE,'" Ronaldo Salgado said during a press conference on Wednesday.
ICE alleged in a statement that its officers attempted to stop a vehicle drivenby Lorenzo Salgado Araujo around 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday. Araujo is allegedly undocumented and didn't follow verbal commands, according to ICE.
This is the second ICE-involved shooting in less than a week.

Federal agents did not have body-worn cameras when a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer
fatally shot a Mexican homebuilder
who was driving a work van they tried pulling over in Houston, the Department of Homeland Security said Thursday.
Separately, prosecutors in Houston said they are investigating the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, whose family
has joined Democrats in calling for
an independent probe over Tuesday’s early morning shooting in one of the city’s heavily Hispanic neighborhoods.
Few photos or videos surrounding the shooting have emerged publicly in the days since the encounter between Salgado Araujo and ICE agents, unlike
other deaths
involving federal immigration officers. The family of Salgado Araujo, who had lived in the U.S. for more than 35 years, has questioned ICE’s account and called on the agency to rel…

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) —The family of a Houston-area man who was shot and killed during a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation is speaking publicly as the case draws calls for transparency from Democratic leaders and immigrant advocates.
The shooting also became part of the conversation Wednesday in Austin, where community members, faith leaders, and advocacy groups gathered outside the Travis County Commissioners Court to voice concerns about immigration enforcement in Central Texas.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, ICE agents were attempting to arrest 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo on Tuesday when he ignored commands and attempted to ram an officer with his vehicle. DHS said the officer fired in self-defense.
Salgado Araujo’s family disputes that account.
Speaking Wednesday, Salgado Araujo’s oldest son, Ronaldo Salgado, described his father as a devoted family man.
“My father was a simple man, a family man, a man of routine. He dedicated his life in the United States to giving his family the American dream.”
He also said his father was working toward legal status.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo worked from sunrise to sunset for 35 years to send all three of his American citizen sons to college. He had been working toward securing legal status in the U.S. after neglecting that for years as he built homes, his son Ronaldo Salgado said at a news conference.
"He did not deserve to die. He did not deserve to be reduced to a headline of Mexican man shot and killed by ICE. He deserved to live a quiet life as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a husband, a father and a job creator for dozens of men who also wanted the American dream," his son said.
The shooting happened Tuesday in Magnolia Park, a neighborhood that has been a hub for the Mexican American community for a century.
