'Fake agency scandal': Gbajabiamila threatens Adeyemi with N10bn suit ...
Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to the President, has threatened to institute a ₦10 billion defamation suit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations linking him to murder, bribery, abuse of office and other criminal conduct.
The legal threat followed a press conference addressed by Adeyemi on June 25, during which he accused the presidential aide of demanding a share of the alleged take-off grant of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), receiving money through proxies, abusing his office and participating in a criminal cover-up. He also described Gbajabiamila as “a murderer” and “an assassin.”
In a letter dated July 6, 2026, and signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kemi Pinheiro, on behalf of Pinheiro LP, Gbajabiamila’s legal team described the allegations as false, malicious and highly defamatory.
The lawyers maintained that the accusations were deliberately crafted to portray the Chief of Staff as corrupt, dishonest, criminally culpable and unfit to occupy public office.
According to the letter, Gbajabiamila has never met, communicated or had any official or personal re…

President Bola Tinubu's office said on Tuesday night that the country's anti-graft agency has been directed to launch an investigation and conclude its findings within 30 days.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) will investigate among other things, alleged forged appointment letters, use of a false claim of presidential appointment to secure official recognition and diplomatic support, including visa facilitation.

Although the letters were listed as exhibits in the Federal Government’s case against Adeyemi, a police investigation report showed that officials who allegedly approved, processed or signed the documents had not been interrogated.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately remove his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to an alleged multi-billion-naira corruption scandal involving a purported non-existent government agency, the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the opposition party described the allegations as grave and said Gbajabiamila’s continued stay in office could compromise any credible investigation into the matter.
The NDC’s demand follows allegations made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the PFIPC, an agency the Presidency has publicly denied exists.

Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has ordered an investigation into how a fake government agency operated openly in the heart of his administration and was almost handed nearly a million dollars in public funds.
The agency, called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, doesn't exist under Nigerian law. Yet it was set to receive about 1.3 billion naira ($944,300) in this year's national budget.
Its offices were reportedly located inside the federal secretariat in Abuja, the same complex that houses genuine government ministries.
Tinubu's office announced on Tuesday night that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been ordered to investigate. It has 30 days to report back.
Investigators will look into claims of forged appointment letters, and allegations that the agency used a fake presidential appointment to gain official recognition, including help securing visas.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, the man who claimed to run the agency, as a "con artist" with a track record of misrepresentation.

Abuja has accused a man identified as Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew of forging government documents to establish a purported agency linked to the presidency
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has ordered an investigation into how an alleged fictitious government agency was established within the presidency with about $950,000 allocated in the 2026 budget.
The probe will examine the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), which Tinubu's office said was never established by the Nigerian government and had no legal basis or presidential approval.
In astatementon Tuesday, the presidency said that the PFIPC was reportedly operated by Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who presented himself as its director-general using forged documents. The agency obtained office space in Abuja, opened bank accounts, and held meetings with government officials and foreign representatives before the case emerged.

Jersey To Return $9.5 Million In Corruption Proceeds To Nigeria
Authorities in Jersey — a British Crown Dependency in the Channel Islands between the United Kingdom and France — are set to return more than $9.5 million (£7 million) to the Nigerian government.
The funds will be funneled into supporting infrastructure projects in the West African country.
This repatriation followed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in December between the Attorney General for Jersey Mark Temple KC and the Federal Government.
The MoU is built on two past deals between Nigeria and Jersey involving the return of over $300m which were held in a bank account in the island.
According to Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, the return of the funds would be used “in line with the terms” of the agreement.
“The successful recovery and repatriation of the forfeited assets underscores the effectiveness of Nigeria’s collaborative efforts with its international partners in ensuring that there is no safe haven for illicitly acquired wealth or assets moved to foreign jurisdictions,” the BBC quoted Fagbemi as saying.

Zainab Abubakar, a justice of the federal high court, Kano, has ordered the forfeiture of the sums of $9.8m and £74,000 allegedly recovered from Andrew Yakubu, former group managing director (GMD), of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
According to a statement issued by Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the order was sequel to an ex parte application the agency filed seeking an interim forfeiture of the monies to the government.
In her ruling, Zainab held that “the sum of $9,772,000 and £74,000 which are now in the custody of the applicant (EFCC) are in the interim forfeited to the federal government of Nigeria”.
Last Friday, the anti-graft agency said its operatives raided a building belonging to the former NNPC boss and recovered stacks of dollars and pound sterling stashed away in a fire-proof safe.
Yakubu had earlier reported to the commission’s Kano zonal office where he allegedly admitted being the owner of both the house and the recovered monies.
He is still in the custody of the EFCC.

The Federal Government has reaffirmed that Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, accused of parading himself as head of a fictitious presidential agency, will be arraigned in court on July 27, 2026, following the conclusion of investigations by the Nigeria Police Force into what officials described as a wide-ranging impersonation and forgery scheme.
The clarification was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, July 2.
He detailed how Adeyemi allegedly created and operated fake presidential bodies, including the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and Presidential Economic Advisory Council.
According to Onanuga, the fraud was first uncovered after the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, received complaints from the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission about conflicting claims of authority from an unknown agency.
He said the Chief of Staff, in a letter dated October 17, 2025, alerted security agencies to the activities of suspected impostors forging official documents.

Authorities in Jersey have agreed to repatriate over $9.5 million (£7 million) linked to corrupt practices to the Nigerian government, marking another step in Nigeria’s long-running effort to recover looted assets from the military era.
The funds are believed to have been stolen by the late former military ruler, Sani Abacha, who governed Nigeria from 1993 to 1998. Although the money was recovered during ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, legal proceedings delayed its return for several years.
In December 2025, Mark Temple, Jersey’s Attorney-General, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nigeria to facilitate the repatriation. The money had been held in a bank account on the island.
The BBC reports that this agreement builds on two prior arrangements between Jersey and Nigeria, which resulted in the repatriation of over $300 million (£230 million) in recovered assets.
A ruling by Jersey’s Royal Court in January 2024 found that the funds were “more likely than not” the proceeds of corruption, noting that third-party contractors diverted public funds for the benefit of senior N…

The Presidency has issued a detailed statement explaining how it says a man, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, allegedly created and operated a non-existent government agency while presenting himself as its director-general.
The statement, signed by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday, was released after Adeyemi reportedly renewed claims that he was appointed by Femi Gbajabiamila, the chief of staff to the President. The Presidency insists those claims are false and says the matter is already before the court.
However, rather than settling the controversy, the statement has generated fresh debate, with many Nigerians arguing that it leaves significant questions unanswered.
What is the controversy?
At the centre of the case is Adeyemi’s claim that he headed what he called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, also referred to as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council. According to the Presidency, no such federal agency exists.

Former Group Managing Director (GMD), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu, on Wednesday, told the Federal High Court, Abuja, that substantial part of the money found at his Kaduna residence by EFCC in 2017 was given to him as gift after leaving office.

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew
For over a year, a man calling himself Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew ran what Nigeria's Presidency now describes as an entirely fictitious government agency complete with a federal office, Central Bank accounts, diplomatic meetings, and hundreds of purported staff before the scheme unraveled into one of the most embarrassing governance scandals to hit Abuja this year.
The Fictitious Agency
Matthew presented himself as Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), also styled as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council an agency Nigeria's Presidency insists never legally existed. According to the Presidency, he secured office space at the Federal Secretariat Complex Phase III in Abuja, and operated there for well over a year, holding meetings with both foreign diplomats and Nigerian officials while presenting himself as a legitimate federal appointee.

Fresh details have emerged in the controversy surrounding the alleged fake government agency linked to Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of illegally operating the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) from Abuja.

At the centre of the controversy is Adeyemi, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC and operated from the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja for several months in 2025.
The Federal Government has since filed criminal charges against him, accusing him of forgery and impersonation.

This is as human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, said the Presidency lacked the constitutional authority to exonerate anyone in the matter and called for an independent probe of both the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila and Adeyemi.
The Police had charged Adeyemi for allegedly operating a fictitious government agency, the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, forging a presidential appointment letter bearing the purported signature of Gbajabiamila, and maintaining 34 bank accounts in the names of non-existent gov…

While the presidency wants Nigerians to believe that this is a case of a sophisticated, elaborate and well-thought-out scheme, product of a meticulously plotted graft designed to hoodwink government officials and steal public funds, the facts of the matter do not support or validate this stance. The Whole scandal reads less like an institutional failure but more like a thread of conspiracy woven sloppily but a gang of avaricious top government officials.
For weeks, the president has been embroiled in an appalling and chaotic bribery scandal that has put an already deeply unpopular government, battling to gain public trust and secure positive public perception, on the verge of a brutal and damaging reputational crisis.
The allegations are astounding, staggering and jarring. This is not a mere case of administrative oversight and bureaucratic clumsiness but a case of what happens when grace, altruism, discipline and fastidiousness are sacrificed on the altar of greed and impunity. But how did Gbajabiamila, one of the powerful figures in the current administration, get entangled in a messy stranger-than-f…

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew,
single-handedly invented a federal agency, secured a sprawling office at the Federal Secretariat, inserted a budget line, and summoned foreign ambassadors to a meeting at the Wells Carlton Hotel — all through forged documents and some juju in his mouth.
If Prince Adeyemi possesses such extraordinary powers that he could mesmerise the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Federal Civil Service, the National Assembly, and segments of the diplomatic community, then the real scandal is not his audacity but the astonishing porosity of the Tinubu administration.
According to the presidency, this serial impostor — who once paraded himself as the head of a fictitious UN-affiliated World Youth Organisation — hoodwinked everyone. He obtained a federal government’s office space, opened bank accounts (including with the CBN), and somehow caused a non-existent entity called the Presidential …

Abuja, Nigeria – Fresh allegations of corruption have sparked nationwide debate after claims emerged linking the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to an alleged ₦600 million bribery scheme and an ₦11.52 billion kickback arrangement involving a federal government agency.
The allegations, made by Prince Adeyemi, have triggered renewed concerns over transparency, accountability and the management of public funds within the federal government.
According to the claims, Adeyemi alleged that he paid ₦400 million upfront and agreed to pay an additional ₦200 million to secure appointment as head of a federal agency. He further claimed that after assuming office, he was pressured to remit 48 percent of the agency’s ₦24 billion take-off grant—approximately ₦11.52 billion—as kickbacks.
However, Gbajabiamila has strongly denied all the allegations, describing them as false, malicious and politically motivated. He also reportedly maintained that the agency in question does not exist.
The conflicting accounts have raised critical questions about the authenticity of the agency, the budgetary allocatio…

The controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, intensified on Saturday as the Presidency alleged that internal collaborators within government institutions enabled Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi to operate the fictitious agency, even as the Kwankwasiyya Movement demanded a full public explanation over the alleged budgetary allocation to the council.
The latest development has further escalated the dispute involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Adeyemi, whom the Presidency has accused of running a sophisticated fraud by presenting himself as Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. While the Presidency insists the council never existed, critics argue that reports of budgetary provisions linked to the body raise questions that require an independent investigation.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said investigators from the Departmen…

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened legal action against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, demanding N10 billion in damages over allegations linking him to murder, bribery, and other criminal activities.
This was contained in a letter dated July 6, 2026, signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kemi Pinheiro, on behalf of Pinheiro LP, the legal representatives of the Chief of Staff.
The letter reads in part, “The publication which has been extensively circulated across several print, electronic and social media platforms and has consequently attracted widespread public attention, contains numerous statements which are not only false, malicious, reckless and entirely without factual foundation, but were clearly designed to portray our client as corrupt, dishonest, criminally culpable, morally bankrupt, administratively incompetent, a murderer and unfit to occupy public office.
“In particular, in your press conference, you falsely alleged, among other things, that our client demanded or requested forty-eight percent (48%) of the alleged take-off grant of an entity described as the Presidential Forei…

Jersey to repatriate $9.5m Abacha-era funds to Nigeria
Authorities in Jersey have given approval for the repatriation of more than $9.5 million (£7 million) in corruption-linked funds to the Nigerian government, marking another milestone in Nigeria’s long-running effort to recover assets looted during the military era.
Jersey officials described the funds as proceeds of “tainted property,” believed to be part of the massive wealth stolen by the late former military ruler, General Sani Abacha, who led Nigeria from 1993 to 1998. The money had been hidden in a bank account on the island and remained locked in prolonged legal battles for several years.
Although the assets were originally recovered during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, their return to Nigeria was stalled by prolonged legal challenges. Progress was finally made in December when Jersey’s Attorney-General, Mark Temple, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian government to facilitate the funds’ repatriation.
According to the BBC, the latest agreement builds on two previous deals between Nigeria and Jersey, which had earlier led to the return of over $300 million (£230 million…
