Germany will contribute €300 million to the Czech initiative — enough to purchase approximately 50 000 rounds of ammunition for Ukraine.
This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius at a meeting with his Czech counterpart Jaromir Zuna, Ceske Noviny
reports
.
Pistorius called the Czech initiative an important tool for supporting Ukraine and thanked Prague for continuing this project. Zuna called Germany a strategic partner of the Czech Republic in the field of defense and security and noted its great responsibility for the defense of Europe.
Germany is the largest foreign donor to the Czech initiative to supply ammunition to Ukraine, which last year allocated a total of one billion euros.
According to the Czech Ministry of Defense, contracts have already been signed for the supply of almost a million ammunition to Ukraine this year.
What is known about the Czech initiative?
In February 2024, the Czech Republic reported that
it had found a way to obtain 800,000 shells
for Ukraine, but they would have to be bought back. The country called on allies to contribute money to the initiative, which was suppo…

France will finance military equipment and ammunition for Ukraine using 300 million euros ($324 million) of interest from Russia’s frozen assets.
This includes 12 Caesar self-propelled howitzers, 155mm artillery ammunition, Aster surface-to-air missiles, Mistral man-portable anti-aircraft systems, and AASM guided bombs, French Defense Minister
Sebastien Lecornu
said.
“We are mobilizing the interests of frozen Russian assets to purchase military equipment for Ukraine,” French broadcaster
BFMTV
quoted
the minister as saying.
“By the end of 2024 alone, France will have returned 300 million euros.”
French Aid to Ukraine
Apart from this initiative, France’s military aid to Ukraine this year is set to fall short of the 3 billion euros ($3.25 billion) pledged during a bilateral security deal earlier this year.
According to
Politico
, the shortfall is
attributed
to the need to reduce France’s budget deficit, which could reach 6 percent of GDP in 2024.
France provided 1.7 billion euros ($1.84 billion) in military aid to Ukraine in 2022 and 2.1 billion eur…

Ammunition Market Germany Pledges 300 Million Euros
Europe’s defense landscape continues to undergo a historic transformation. Germany’s decision to contribute an additional€300 millionto the Czech-led initiative supplyingartillery ammunitionto Ukraine is more than a short-term military support measure it is another indicator of a broader structural shift reshaping defense procurement priorities across Europe and beyond.
Announced by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during talks with his Czech counterpart in Berlin, the funding aims to strengthen the supply of artillery ammunition for Ukraine as the conflict enters another critical phase. The contribution follows a series of coordinated efforts by European nations to replenish ammunition stockpiles, enhance industrial production capacity, and improve long-term defense readiness.
For defense manufacturers, investors, military planners, and policymakers, the announcement highlights an increasingly important reality: ammunition is no longer viewed as a consumable resource to be maintained at minimum operational levels. Instead, governments are treating ammunition stockpiles as strategic assets requiring sustained investment,…

The Netherlands will spend €500 million on air defence systems, ammunition and other military equipment for Ukraine, as part of a wider €3.5 billion pledge made earlier this year, defence minister Ruben Brekelmans has announced.
The package will be purchased directly from the United States, making the Netherlands the first Nato country to fund supplies from the so-called Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) – a list drawn up by Ukraine of the weaponry and materials it urgently needs.
The scheme was devised by US president Donald Trump and Nato secretary general Mark Rutte to shift the cost of military aid away from the US and towards other Nato members during the recent summit in The Hague.
Brekelmans
told MPs in a briefing
that the exact contents of the Dutch-funded package could not be disclosed for operational reasons. However, he said, it includes air defence syste…

Part of the funding will also go toward purchasing spare parts needed to maintain the weapons.

In order to meet the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ enormous demand for artillery ammunition and to balance the supply of available ammunition, the Czech government launched the “Czech ammunition initiative” in the spring of 2024.
The original plan was “merely” to finance and supply a total of 800,000 artillery shells, made up of 500,000 155 mm shells and 300,000 122 mm shells.
However, over the past two years, billions of euros have been invested in the initiative, enabling an incredible
4.4 million
large-calibre rounds to be delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by February 2026.
As artillery is one of the main areas of Germany’s support for Ukraine, it came as no surprise that Germany pledged own funding relatively quickly and, with 180,000 155 mm shells worth €576 million, even made the largest publicly known pledge to date.
But in the two years since the initial German funding commitment in March 2024, only very few further details have been released, and further commitments have merely been hinted at. At least until recently.

The PURL initiative was launched in July by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and US President Donald Trump and came following criticism from the White House that Europe needed to shoulder more of the responsibility for Ukraine's security.
The new financial arrangement sees 17 mostly European allies buy US-made weapons, which are then transferred to Ukraine. It aims to ensure a predictable flow of lethal and non-lethal support, including air defence.
PURL is key to enacting Europe and Canada's commitment to taking on the majority share of the burden for U…
