New Delhi, Jun 21: The Union government is set to deploy CISF security personnel to secure five more prisons of Jammu and Kashmir after the two central jails in Jammu and Srinagar.
A force spokesperson said on Sunday that “plans are under consideration” for extending the security cover of the paramilitary to the high security prison at Mahanpur (Kathua) and district jails of Jammu, Anantnag, Kupwara and Baramulla.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was inducted for providing armed security to the Central Jails in Srinagar and Jammu (Kot Bhalwal) at Jammu in October 2023.
The force is responsible for securing both the inner and outer perimeters of these sensitive facilities through a combination of trained manpower, modern surveillance systems, and strict access control measures, the spokesperson said.
In order to check crimes in these two prisons, including smuggling of narcotics, the CISF has deployed non-linear junction detectors (NLJD), capable of detecting concealed electronic circuits, dual-view x-ray baggage inspection systems (X-BIS) and hand-held metal d…

CISF to Expand Security Cover to Five More Jails in Jammu and Kashmir
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) plans to extend its security cover to five more correctional facilities in Jammu and Kashmir, including the high-security prison in Kathua and district jails in Jammu, Anantnag, Kupwara, and Baramulla. This expansion follows the successful deployment of CISF at Central Jail Srinagar and Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu since October 2023. The force has introduced advanced surveillance technologies such as AI-enabled CCTV, NLJD detectors, and X-ray baggage inspection systems to prevent contraband smuggling. CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan recently reviewed security at Central Jail Srinagar and emphasized technology-driven, intelligence-led monitoring for evolving threats.

CISF likely to secure 5 more high-security jails in Jammu & Kashmir
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is likely to provide security cover at the high security prison in Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as district jails in Jammu, Anantnag, Kupwara, and Baramulla.
As per the CISF, the "plans are under consideration" as the expansion in security cover to these correctional Centres aimed at creating a standardized and professional security architecture across the prison network of the erstwhile state. The deployment assumes significance in view of the complex security challenges associated with high-security prisons, which house inmates involved in terrorism-related and other serious offences.
"In a significant development for internal security in Jammu and Kashmir, the CISF is set to further expand its presence in the Union Territory's correctional facilities, building upon the success of its deployment at Central Jail Srinagar and Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu," the CISF said in a statement. "Encouraged by the effectiveness of the current deployment, plans are under consideration for extending CISF security cover to additional correctional facilities a…
