And from the veterans on down to the rookies, McCarthy believes they're on pace to get everything accomplished that he had in mind for this phase of the calendar. "This is usually where the rookies kind of hit the wall a little bit," McCarthy said Thursday after the team's fifth practice of OTAs. "You didn't see that today. I've been really impressed with the way they've come in and picked it up and tried to learn from the veteran players. It's going well." Of course, the older Steelers are still learning, too. For those who have covered the team for some time, the differences are obvious , even in OTAs. That’s all that we have to go on up to this point, of course, but even that can be telling. “This is a focused, determined person who pays great attention to detail”, Gerry Dulac told Vic Carucci and Dan Leberfeld on SiriusXM NFL Radio regarding Mike McCarthy and his early observations in OTAs. “He has a way of doing things and he is doing it his way. Just little things that we see are completely different from the way Mike Tomlin did it”. Considering Tomlin was around for nearly two decades, there aren’t likely many covering the Steelers today who had firsthand experience with anybody else.
