ISLAMABAD: Civilian and navy searchers off Pakistan's coast Wednesday located and recovered wreckage of a cargo plane that disappeared while approaching the southern port of Karachi while the search continues for five missing crew members, officials said.
The aircraft operated by the private carrier K2 Airways had departed from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and reported a navigational system problem before losing contact with air traffic control late Tuesday.
The Pakistani navy and civilian teams in planes and ships found the plane debris after about 12 hours of searching in the Arabian Sea, Pakistan’s Airports Authority said in a post on X.
Retired Rear Adm. Faisal Shah said searchers were dealing with rough seas and that they were still looking for the main wreckage of the plane, which could prove much more difficult to find because the area is believed to be about 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) deep, requiring specialized equipment.
He said recovering debris does not necessarily reveal the aircraft’s exact crash site because ocean currents, waves and wind can carry the floating wreckage far from wher…

A private cargo aircraft traveling from Sharjah to Karachi has gone missing after losing contact with air traffic control over the Arabian Sea. According to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), the missing cargo plane disappeared from radar while approaching Karachi, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation.
The aircraft, operated by K2 Airways, was a Boeing 737-400 (registration AP-BOI) operating flight KTA1732 from Sharjah to Karachi. PAA officials said that at 9:18 p.m., approximately 150 nautical miles south of Karachi on airway G216, the crew reported a navigation system malfunction and requested heading guidance. Air traffic controllers instructed the aircraft to maintain its current course.
Shortly afterward, the aircraft was observed turning to the right while rapidly losing altitude at a descent rate of about 15,000 feet per minute. Despite repeated attempts by air traffic controllers to establish communication, no response was received. At 9:21 p.m., the aircraft disappeared from radar approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi, with both radar and radio contact lost simultaneously.

KARACHI – A K2 Airways cargo aircraft en route from Sharjah to Karachi first disappeared from radar over the Gulf, and later crashed into the Arabian Sea, prompting search operation by Pakistan Air Force and Navy.
The K2 Airways Flight KTA-1732 lost contact approximately 300 kilometers from Karachi, about 155 nautical miles west of the city, while approaching Pakistan’s airspace.
