While the UAE, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia chose years of heightened tensions with Iran, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait had adopted what was perceived as a more pragmatic stance toward that country.
Iraq on Saturday said it was ready to host a “public” meeting between the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and
Iran
as the two regional foes attempt to bury the hatchet.
Five rounds of negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia – which back opposing parties in a number of regional crises – have taken place in Iraq since April of last year.
However, these interactions, which involved security and intelligence officials, were privately held to ensure secrecy.
However, the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Saturday that a meeting between his Saudi and Iranian colleagues would take place in Iraq at a future time.
“I contacted the foreign minister of Iran about this,” Hussein said in an interview with Kurdish television channel Rudaw.
“We are preparing the meeting, trying to find the best time to invit…

Heading a political delegation, Araghchi arrived in the Iraqi capital on Sunday and was welcomed by Iraqi Communications Minister Mustafa Sand.
According to Iraqi media reports, discussions are expected to cover the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Iraq’s debt payments to Iran, border security, and measures to prevent anti-Iran groups from operating on Iraqi territory.
The MOU, signed by Iran and the United States in June following a series of mediated negotiations, calls for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations and continued diplomatic engagement between the two sides.
Araghchi is also expected to coordinate with Iraqi authorities regarding arrangements for the funeral ceremonies of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Iraq’s holy shrines.

Iranian foreign minister heads to Baghdad for talks with Iraqi officials
Iran's foreign minister on Sunday left for an official visit to Baghdad for talks with senior Iraqi officials.
Writing on Dubai-based social media platform Telegram, Abbas Araghchi said he will exchange views with Iraqi officials on bilateral ties as well as on regional and global issues.
"Making the necessary arrangements with the responsible Iraqi authorities to hold the funeral ceremony for the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ali Khamenei) at the holy shrines is among the topics of this trip," he added, referring to Iran’s supreme leader, who was killed on Feb. 28 when the US and Israel launched a war on Iran.
The visit comes in the wake of a framework deal halting the war between the US and Iran, followed by 60 days of talks towards a more comprehensive agreement.
The deal has been followed by intermittent hostilities between the two countries, including US attacks on southern Iran this weekend followed by retaliatory Iranian strikes on US positions in Gulf states.

WANA (Jun 28) –
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said no country or international body other than the Islamic Republic of Iran bears responsibility for managing the Strait of Hormuz, urging all parties to refrain from interfering in the implementation of arrangements outlined in the Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein in Baghdad, Araghchi said his visit comes under exceptional circumstances, following what he described as the U.S. and Israeli “aggression” against Iran and the Iranian people’s 40-day resistance during the war.
He said the first objective of his visit was to thank the Iraqi government and people for their support and principled stance in condemning the attacks on Iran. The second objective, he added, was to meet senior Iraqi officials, congratulate Prime Minister Ali Al-Sudani on the formation of the new government, and congratulate Fuad Hussein on remaining in his post as…
