(Al Arabiya) Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis announced a missile attack on Israel on Monday and declared a ban on Israeli shipping in the Red Sea, raising the specter of a return to major disruption on the key route. The Houthis harassed cargo ships in the vital seaway during the Israel-Hamas war, forcing many companies into a lengthy detour around the tip of southern Africa. Their threat comes as the Strait of Hormuz, the gateway to the Gulf sea and its energy exporters, remains blockaded by Iran as a result of the Middle East war with the US and Israel. “We declare a complete and total ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea,” said a statement from the Houthis’ armed forces. –

Yemen's Houthi group announced on Monday a "complete and total" prohibition on Israeli maritime traffic through the Red Sea, vowing to resume attacks on Israeli-linked vessels in the strategic waterway and warning that military operations would intensify in response to Israeli actions across the region.
Yemen’s Houthi movement declared on Monday that all Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea would face a "complete and total ban," citing ongoing Israeli military operations across the region. The group stated that vessels linked to Israel would once again be targeted in the waterway, according to a statement issued by Houthi military officials.
Missile strikes on Jaffa
The announcement followed missile attacks targeting sensitive locations in the Jaffa region, which the group claimed had achieved their objectives with precision. The strikes came in response to Israeli aggression in Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, a…

The Houthi militant group in Yemen has announced a suspension of maritime operations against Israel and formally ended its naval blockade of Israeli ports, marking a significant shift in Red Sea shipping security.
The announcement came through a formal letter sent to Hamas’s military wing, Kata’ib al Qassam, by newly appointed Houthi Chief of Staff Yousef Hassan Al Madani, who assumed the role following the death of his predecessor, Mohammed Al Ghamari, in Israeli airstrikes. The move indicates that attacks against vessels previously targeted for calling at Israeli ports have now ceased. The letter was firstreported by the Associated Press.
However, maritime security experts are urging caution despite the declared pause. Martin Kelly, Head of Advisory at EOS Risk Group, emphasized that the risk reduction should not be mistaken for complete elimination.
“As of 11 November, the risk of Houthi attacks against shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and broader region is significantly lower,” Kelly noted. “However, despite the decla…

Yemen's Houthis declare total ban on Israeli shipping in Red Sea
Yemen's Houthi armed forces announced a "complete and total ban" on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea on Monday, declaring that all Israeli-affiliated vessel movements would be considered military targets from the moment of the announcement.
The group simultaneously claimed missile strikes on sensitive targets in the Israeli port city of Jaffa, Houthi spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said.
The Yemeni Armed Forces said they fired a missile salvo targeting "sensitive targets of the Israeli enemy" in occupied Jaffa.
The statement said the attack "achieved its objectives with precision."
The strike was framed in the context of confronting what the group described as "American-Zionist aggression against Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen," and in solidarity with what it called the "axis of resistance."
"We announce a complete and total ban on maritime navigation for the Israeli enemy in the Red Sea, and we consider all the enemy's movements to be military targets for our armed forces from the moment of the announcement of this statement," the Yemeni Armed Forces statement said.

Iranian proxy Houthis declare total ban on Israeli ships in Red Sea
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis said on Monday that they would ban Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, adding to challenges for global shipping through the Middle East during the Iran war.
The group said in a statement it had launched an attack on Israel and enacted a total ban on Israeli shipping in the Red Sea, warning of further escalation.
Any Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping would worry energy markets more than three months into Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, with the war reigniting overnight.
The Red Sea, leading to the Suez Canal, is a crucial shipping lane in its own right, and during the Iran war has become the main alternative outlet for millions of barrels per day of Middle East oil sent by pipeline bypassing the Persian Gulf.
The Houthis disrupted shipping in 2023 to 2025 out of what they said was solidarity with the Palestinians, but had so far largely stayed out of the wider Middle East war that began with US-Israeli attacks on Iran in February this year.
A Houthi source toldReutersthat preventing Israeli ships from transiting the Red Sea was a first step, and that further escala…
