The National Economic Council approved N83.2 billion in Abuja to mitigate flooding and climate-related emergencies across Nigeria through funding for federal and state emergency management agencies.
The approval was announced on Thursday by Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, while briefing journalists after the National Economic Council meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Bagudu said the intervention would strengthen the capacity of the National Emergency Management Agency and State Emergency Management Agencies to respond to flooding and other climate-related emergencies across the country.

The National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday rose from its monthly meeting with an approval of the sum of N83.2 billion for the Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) interventions aimed at mitigating the impact of anticipated flooding and other climate-related emergencies across the country.
This is coming just as the Chairman of the Council, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, called on states to work with the Federal Government in resolving the logistical and compliance barriers that prevent farm produce from reaching international markets.

The National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday approved N83.2 billion to mitigate the impact of anticipated flooding and other climate-related emergencies across the country.
The council, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, approved the fund as part of its Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) interventions, according to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).
The approval comes amid a report released by theCoalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), which states that Nigeria and other African countries lose an estimated $12.7 billion annually due to disaster-related damage to infrastructure and buildings.
