NIGER STATE, Nigeria (BP) — Militants have killed at least 58 individuals in Christian villages in northeastern and northcentral Nigeria since Christmas and kidnapped others from a Catholic boarding school, according to numerous reports.
The attacks Dec. 29 and Jan. 3 followed U.S. launches of more than 16 Tomahawk missiles on targets in northwest Nigeria on Dec. 24, which the U.S. said were aimed at Islamic terrorists who have targeted Christians there.
The Nigerian government blamed the killings of dozens of individuals on Jan. 3 in two villages in Niger State — a state in northcentral Nigeria separate from the neighboring country of Niger — on “terrorists suspected to be fleeing from Sokoto and Zamfara following the United States’ airstrikes on Christmas Eve,” the New York Times
reported
Jan. 4. But the full impact of the U.S. strikes on Christmas Eve has not been reported.
The Jan. 3 attacks occurred in Kasuwa Daji village in the Borgu Local Government Area, where residents initially reported 37 deaths, and in the neighboring village of Kaima, where five people were killed, the …

profoundly sad and frightening that bandits/terrorists are winning the war against the Nigerian State and people while our leaders and security personnel watch helplessly. Clearly, there is no Sheriff in town. At the level of symbols, particular notice should be taken of the armed attack and killing of security personnel at the top elite institution for the training of the cream of the security and state governing cadres of Nigeria, the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru (NIPSS).
On Monday night, there was a gun battle between the bandits/terrorists and security personnel stationed at the institute. NIPSS is Nigeria’s foremost policy institute. Senior government officials, including those in the military, the police, and the public service, are required to undergo a summit-preparing leadership course at the institute. Jihadists kill 20 in northwest Nigeria near Niger border: report - BSS
KANO, Nigeria, June 14, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - An attack by suspected radical militants from a group that was targeted by the United States in December airstrikes has killed 20 people in northwest Nigeria, an intel report showed on Sunday.
A confidential security report prepared for the United Nations seen by AFP said jihadists from the shadowy Lakurawa group raided the Fesken Rafi community in Kebbi state's Arewa district near the border with Niger, "killing more than 20 victims".
The raid reportedly occurred a few days ago, according to local media but was only reported over the weekend after the Kebbi state deputy governor visited the area. No exact date was given.
The attack happened after a lull in violence by Lakurawa in the past months, suggesting a resurgence of violence by the jihadist group, the report said, adding it may be intended to show its capability to stage complex operations in the face of intensified military offensives.

SOKOTO:Waves of terror swept through Kebbe and Tambuwal local government areas of Sokoto State as heavily armed Lakurawa bandits and kidnappers unleashed coordinated attacks that left entire communities deserted, families displaced, and lives shattered.
In a trail of destruction that spanned villages across two districts, the marauders stormed settlements with reckless abandon, sacking homes, looting food stores, and leaving blood stained footprints of grief in their wake.
Among the hardest-hit areas were Fakku, Sha’alwashi, Tulluwa, Bashi Bakin Dutse, and Rafin-Gora in Kuchi District of Kebbe LGA, where residents fled in panic as the attackers unleashed gunfire and set homes ablaze. The once-thriving agrarian communities now stand in ruins, their people scattered in search of safety.
The situation grew so dire that the village head of Fakku and his family were forced into exile, abandoning their ancestral home to seek refuge in Koko, Kebbi State, joining hundreds of displaced persons who have fled across state boundaries to escape the escalating violence.

ABUJA, Feb 5 - Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has deployed an army battalion to Kaiama district in the central Kwara state after suspected jihadist fighters killed 170 people in an overnight attack, his office said on Thursday.
Tuesday's assault on Woro village was the deadliest this year in the state bordering Niger, a hotspot where Islamic State West Africa Province and other armed groups have stepped up village attacks and mass kidnappings.
The violence highlights fears that jihadist factions from the north are pushing south along the Niger-Kwara axis toward the Kainji forest, which security analysts warn could become their next stronghold.
Nigeria has come under scrutiny after U.S. President Donald Trump accused it last year of failing to protect Christians amid Islamist attacks and mass kidnappings. U.S. forces struck what they described as terrorist targets on December 25.

Kaduna Farmers Attacked as Bandits Kill One in Giwa Community

On Friday, bandits opened fire on a group of farmers working on their farms in Kaduna State. The attack happened in Giwa Local Government Area (LGA), which shares borders with Birnin Gwari. Birnin Gwari is known as the main hotspot for banditry in Kaduna State and has experienced similar attacks before.
This recent attack is part of a series of violent incidents in the area. Just a few weeks earlier, on November 12, 2025, terrorists carried out a midnight raid in Gidan Waya, Lere LGA, killing four residents and kidnapping 12 others. Also, on November 1, 2025, bandits attacked a community in Damakasuwa, Kauru LGA, killing five people, including minors, and injuring others.
Tragically, during the latest attack, one farmer was killed. The incident has raised serious concerns about the ongoing insecurity in Kaduna State, especially for farmers who risk their lives to cultivate their land. Authorities have yet to make an official statement, but residents are calling for urgent action to stop the violence and protect the communities.

Nigeria’s security crisis is rapidly deepening as terrorist and bandit groups expand into new territories, exploit weak state presence and increasingly target civilians, traditional authorities and government institutions, a report by SBM Intelligence has warned.
In its Security and Political Economy Report for January 2–8, 2026, the research firm said armed groups are “rapidly finding new grounds,” with violence spreading across the North-Central, North-West, North-East and into parts of the South-West previously considered relatively safe.
The report highlighted the mass killing of more than 40 villagers in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State as a major turning point. According to SBM Intelligence, the attack signals “a sharp escalation in the contest for control of the North-Central western corridor, particularly the forested belt around Kainji Lake National Park,” which has become a convergence zone for bandits and terrorist factions including Boko Haram and ISWAP.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Gunmen killed at least 17 farmers and wounded at least 13 others as they worked in their fields in northwestern Nigeria, a local official and a resident said.
The attack occurred on Friday in the town of Goron Namaye in the Maradun area of Zamfara state. No group has claimed responsibility but attacks by armed gangs have increased in recent months.
“The farmers were working on their lands when the bandits suddenly attacked and killed 17 of them,” Shehu Musa, a resident of Maradun, told The Associated Press on Saturday, adding that the wounded were being treated at a hospital.
The attack was a result of the refusal of the Zamfara state government to negotiate with the gunmen, Sanusi Dosara, chairman of the Maradun local government, said in a statement. Dosara appealed on government forces to dismantle the Bayan-Ruwa enclave in the Maradun forest, where the gunmen were hiding.

Jihadists kill 20 in northwest Nigeria near Niger border: report
The US military struck parts of northwestern Nigeria on December 25, which the Nigerian government said targeted Islamic State group fighters, the Lakurawa jihadist group and "bandit" criminal gangs.
It is unknown how many were killed, and from which groups.
The motive of the latest attack was unclear.
However, jihadists and criminal gangs of kidnappers and cattle thieves called bandits have in recent weeks be…
