Parents and caregivers told the child rights organisation that children’s capacity to even imagine a future without war has virtually disappeared. The emotional distress of dodging bombs and bullets, losing loved ones, being forced to flee through streets littered with debris and corpses, and waking up every morning not knowing if they will be able to eat has also left parents and caregivers increasingly unable to cope. The support, services and tools they need to care for their children…

How aid is (and is not) getting into Gaza | UN News
How aid is (and is not) getting into Gaza | UN News FacebookTwitterPrintEmail A relentless siege, deadly targeted attacks and chronic restrictions on lifesaving aid deliveries into the war-torn Gaza Strip by Israeli forces: that’s just some of what aid workers are grappling with as they try to provide the level of lifesaving assistance needed to stave off widespread famine and epidemics in the strip. UN Newslooked at the needs triggered by the ongoing conflict through a lens of how much aid is getting into Gaza compared with what is required to address the grim situation on the ground,  where 2.3 million Palestinians are trapped amid an ongoing war that began almost one year ago following Hamas-led attacks that left more than 1,000 people dead in Israel and 250 taken hostage. Now they are grappling with rampant hunger, the spread of disease, vast destruction, a decimated healthcare system, destroyed water and sanitation infrastructure and a severe lack of basic necessities. Here’s the latest: The only way into the besieged occupied Gaza Strip, surrounded by Israel to the north and east and Egypt to the south, is through Israeli-controlled borders. Gaza buried under 60 million tons of rubble, UN warns cleanup could ... Friday 16-January-2026 GAZA, (PIC) Senior United Nations officials have warned that the Gaza Strip is facing a monumental reconstruction challenge, with more than 60 million tons of rubble left by Israel’s genocide, a volume that could take over seven years to clear under current conditions. Jorge Moreira da Silva, executive director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), said that the amount of debris in Gaza is equivalent to the load of around 3,000 container ships. Speaking after a visit to Gaza and the region, he noted that each resident is now surrounded by an average of 30 tons of rubble. Da Silva warned that the humanitarian crisis is deepening as residents suffer from extreme exhaustion, psychological trauma, and mounting pressures, compounded by harsh winter conditions and heavy rainfall. He said children’s lives in Gaza have come to be defined by loss and trauma, after being out of school for a third consecutive year, raising the risk of an entire “lost generation” struggling with lasting physical and psychological wounds. He elaborated on his meetings with families who have…

Gaza post-'ceasefire' deaths hit 983 as Israeli attack targets refugee ... The death toll in Gaza has reached at least 983 individuals following the conclusion of a temporary ceasefire, with recent escalations marked by an Israeli strike on a refugee camp. According to data provided by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) , the resumption of hostilities has resulted in a sharp increase in civilian casualties and the displacement of thousands of residents across the Gaza Strip. The surge in fatalities follows the collapse of a seven-day pause in fighting between Israel and Hamas, which had allowed for the release of hostages and the delivery of limited humanitarian aid. As the conflict intensifies, international observers and humanitarian organizations have expressed concern over the safety of non-combatants in densely populated areas. The Israeli military has stated its operations are focused on dismantling Hamas infrastructure, while officials in Gaza report that the strikes have impacted residential zones and sites designated for internally displaced persons. The rapid escalation highlights the ongoing volatility of the region and the cha…

Gaza's breast cancer patients face immediate mastectomies as doctors ... Physicians and health professionals in Gaza marked 1,000 days of genocide on Thursday with a plea for international pressure to lift Israel's nearly two-decade blockade, as well as its ban on critical medical supplies for Palestinians that even include chlorine bleach to disinfect hospitals. In a virtual call hosted by the global non-profit Doctors Against Genocide , a slate of experts described conditions that can barely sustain the healthiest residents of Gaza, let alone those who are elderly, disabled, or with illnesses that predate the 7 October 2023 Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel, and the subsequent genocide in Gaza. Israel's assault has so far killed 1,700 medical workers, wholly or partly destroyed 38 hospitals, and hit nearly 200 ambulances in the enclave, the Gaza health ministry has said. Women with breast cancer are undergoing immediate mastectomies because it's the fastest way to save their lives when there are no deeper diagnostic tools or cancer drugs, Dr Ahmed Shatat, director general of International Cooperation and Planning in Gaza, said on the call. Israel's blocking of food and aid deliveries worsens Gaza conditions ... March 10, 2025 at 2:51 pm Palestinians experience food and fuel crisis after the closure of the Kerem Shalom (Karm Abu Salem) border crossing, as Israel continues to prevent the entry of humanitarian aid in violation of the ceasefire agreement in Khan Yunis, Gaza on March 9, 2025. Why is it so hard to deliver aid in Gaza and other crisis zones?
Why is it so hard to deliver aid in Gaza and other crisis zones? Humanitarian access is a right—not a privilege. Here’s why it matters now more than ever. Around the world, more than305 millionpeople are in need ofhumanitarian aid—lifesaving support that includes clean water, food, medical care and shelter. But in contexts likeGaza, civilians face enormous challenges when trying to access aid safely and with dignity. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is working in Gaza and other crisis-affected areas to deliver aid where it’s needed most. But in order to do so, aid organizations must be granted humanitarian access—the ability to reach people in need without obstruction, and without putting civilians or aid workers in harm’s way. Humanitarian access refers to the ability of aid organizations to reach people in crisis with the humanitarian services they need—and the ability of those people to access these services with safety and dignity. Without it, families go without food, water and medical care. Lives are at risk every day that aid is delayed or denied. For the people we serve, humanitarian access means being able to access essentials, like food, water, medical care a…

Gaza: Four more hospitals shut amid ongoing Israeli offensive
Gaza: Four more hospitals shut amid ongoing Israeli offensive FacebookTwitterPrintEmail The escalating Israeli military offensive in Gaza City continues to overwhelm medical professionals there, with four more hospitals forced to shut down this month alone in the north of the war-torn enclave, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday. “This brings the total functioning hospitals in Gaza to only 14…the situation at the remaining eight hospitals and one field hospital in the city is critical,” saidWHOspokesperson Tarik Jasarevic. The development comes as Israeli forces continue to push into Gaza City with the declared aim of dislodging Hamas fighters believed to be based there. At the same time, repeated Israel Defense Forces evacuation orders have been issued to communities in Gaza City, uprooting hundreds of thousands of people and affecting hundreds of health facilities. “Even if hospitals are not asked to evacuate, there is a lack of access, there is violence just nearby and that can put them out of service,”Mr. Jasarevic told journalists in Geneva. Citing the Palestinian Civil Defence Authority, OCHA said that the recovery of dead bodies from the debris is a huge challenge, owing to a lack of bulldozers, excavators and personnel. Israeli Efforts to Dismantle UNRWA’s Life-Saving Operations in Gaza Would Be Disastrous, Senior Officials, Speakers Warn Security Council 09 October 2024 9744th Meeting (PM) One year after Hamas’ attack on Israel and the resulting military response — now extending to Lebanon — senior UN officials warned the Security Council today that efforts to dismantle the United Nations’ presence in Gaza and its surrounds would be disastrous for the people in need there, as speakers urged the Council to act. “Gaza is unrecognizable,” said Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), detailing the dire situation in the Strip.  Emphasizing that children have not been spared, he observed that, “while Palestinians are no strangers to loss”, the dispossession of education is new.  “We cannot afford to lose an entire generation and sow the seeds for future hatred and extremism,” he underscored.  “That is why UNRWA — beyond its life-saving operations — has resumed some learning activities in Gaza,” he reported, detailing efforts to provide …

Humanitarian Situation Report | 3 July 2026 - ochaopt.org
Humanitarian Situation Report | 3 July 2026 - ochaopt.org Across the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), Palestinians are being confined to ever-smaller spaces where they can live, move, access essential services, and sustain their livelihoods. In the Gaza Strip, new displacement is being driven by the expansion of military-imposed access-restricted areas – occasionally marked by yellow cement blocks – or by airstrikes or shelling that, over the past week alone, ignited fires that consumed hundreds of tents. In the West Bank, displacement is increasingly linked to recurrent Israeli settler attacks and the establishment of new settlement outposts, alongside home demolitions, which undermine access to land, livelihoods, and basic services. Across both contexts, repeated displacement is eroding household resilience, deepening humanitarian needs, and increasing dependence on humanitarian assistance. This section covers 22 to 28 June unless otherwise specified. During the reporting period, people across the Gaza Strip, including humanitarian workers remained exposed to airstrikes, other military activity, new or protracted displacement and persisting health risks. Please refer to ourexplainerarticle for the latest updates on the crisis in Gaza. Children in Gaza are living through one of the world’s most urgent humanitarian crises. For nearly two years, they have faced bombardment, hunger and displacement as they bear the brunt of the war in Gaza. More than 64,000 Palestinians have been killed since war erupted on October 7, 2023, according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which bases its figures on Gaza Health Ministry statistics. Nearly half of the identified fatalities are women and children. The children of Gaza urgently need a ceasefire and a massive increase in humanitarian aid. Current restrictions on food, water and medical supplies are costing lives every day. Long queues for water were a daily reality. So was a constant fear of shelling. When a ceasefire was announced in January 2025, the family headed straight back to their home in northern Gaza. That’s when I saw that she only had half her leg. She was grabbing in desperation at the physician who was standing next to her, and asking over and over again for anesthesia drugs. We rushed her into the operating room, despite knowing that the anesthesiologist does not have anesthesia drugs to give her, and he does not have sedation medicines to get her sedated or control her pain. In Gaza, at least 14,000 children have reportedly been killed, many more injured, while thousands are likely under the rubble, and an estimated 17,000 others are unaccompanied or separated from their caregivers. More than 55 displacement orders remain in effect, covering up to 86 per cent of the Gaza Strip. Children have lost access to quality healthcare, education, and other services. All children are now in need of mental health and psychosocial support. One year into the war, children’s most basic needs remain unmet. Persistent restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid and commercial commodities, and the inability of humanitarians to safely reach all children and families, have rendered the Gaza population acutely food insecure . All 335,000 children under five are a…
