The survey was conducted in the immediate aftermath of riots, looting, and clashes with police following Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory.
Police removed a rejected asylum seeker from a church after nearly three years, marking the first such case since Norway scrapped protections for “church asylum.”
Prosecutors allege the 17-year-old victim was groomed online, brought to the city by taxi, and assaulted over several hours in a house in St. Werburghs.

Germany’s domestic intelligence agency on Friday classified the far-right
Alternative for Germany
(AfD) as an extremist entity that threatens democracy, a move enabling it to better monitor the party that came second in February’s federal election.
The BfV agency’s finding, based on a 1,100-page expert report, that the AfD is racist and anti-Muslim allows the authorities to increase surveillance of the party, including by recruiting confidential informants and intercepting communications.
The stigma could also hamper the party’s ability to attract members, while public funding could be at risk.
The AfD, which currently tops several opinion polls, condemned the decision, while political analysts said it risked further fueling support for the party.
“Central to our assessment is the ethnically and ancestrally defined concept of the people that shapes the AfD, which devalu…

BERLIN– The far-right Alternative for Germany is in a buoyant mood as it holds a convention this weekend. It is capitalizing on the unpopularity of a government that’s trying toreform the sluggish economy, and eyeing promising prospects of power in an eastern region this fall.
Yet the anti-migration nationalist party is as polarizing as ever. Its meeting is expected to draw tens of thousands of protesters to the eastern city of Erfurt.

“Ukraine Must Pay Germany for Nord Stream Damage” AfD
In late December 2025, Germany’s right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) again came under intense scrutiny as centrist politicians accused the party of serving, indirectly, as a conduit for Russian interests. The controversy was triggered by reports from Politico on December 23 and later echoed by The New York Times and Der Spiegel, highlighting AfD’s extensive use of parliamentary inquiries focused on sensitive defense and security matters.
Parliamentary Questions Raise Security Concerns
Since 2020, AfD lawmakers have submitted thousands of formal questions—more than any other party—seeking details on arms transports to Ukraine, drone-defense systems, counter-espionage efforts, and the protection of critical infrastructure. While such inquiries are legally permitted as part of parliamentary oversight, critics argue that their sheer volume and specificity could, when combined, expose vulnerabilities in Germany’s security architecture.

Divisions inside the German party Alternative for Germany (AfD) over relations with Russia have caused alarm in Moscow: the Kremlin is following with concern the conflict between the party’s co-chairs, Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla.
The tension between the co-chairs was triggered by Weidel’s reaction to a planned trip by AfD lawmakers to Russia and her doubts about the usefulness of such visits.
AfD Bundestag members Steffen Kotré and Rainer Rothfuß, the head of AfD in Saxony Jörg Urban, and AfD MEP Hans Neuhoff planned to attend the international symposium
“BRICS–Europe”
to be held in Sochi on 14–15 November 2025.
Chrupalla, in contrast, stressed on the Markus Lanz program that German politicians
“must maintain dialogue with Russia”
and shrugged off Putin’s threats to use nuclear weapons.
Russian media interpreted this as a split within the leadership of the AfD that could weaken its political position.
The Kremlin, in particular, fears that the AfD might

and soften its pro-Russian line — especially after the decline in s…

Summary
Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), which has become the largest opposition party in the latest German parliamentary elections, has been designated as “confirmed right-wing extremist” by the German intelligence agency.
The right-wing party, which has previously been regarded as a “suspected case” of right-wing extremism due to its racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic rhetoric, appealed the decision to a Cologne-based court, which put the designation on hold until the court ruling.
The court is likely to uphold the BfV’s extremism designation of the AfD, possibly triggering legal and political efforts to ban the party.
AfD, the second largest party in the Bundestag, was designated as
“confirmed right-wing extremist”
by the German domestic intelligence agency, Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV). BfV’s decision on 2 May 2025 underscored that the AfD’s

rhetoric is…

May 2 (UPI) --
Germany's populist, far-right Alternative for Germany party was officially designated Friday as an "extremist" group that is actively working to undermine the country's democracy.
Domestic intelligence agency the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution said it had taken the step
based on hard evidence
detailed in a 1,000-page it said provided evidence that AfD was working against the country's democratic system.
"The ethnicity and ancestry-based understanding of the people prevailing within the party is
incompatible with the free democratic orde
r," the FOPC said in a statement.
The "proven far-right extremist organization" classification was in line with what the report said are breaches of central tenets of the constitution, including with regard to human dignity and the rule of law, but stops short of banning AfD.
However, the designation empowers authorities, subject to approval by a judge, to intensify surveillance, including infiltration by undercover agents, wire-tapping and tracking of online activity and communications.

A politician from the pro-Russian AfD party secretly fought as a volunteer on the side of Ukraine against Russia. He may be expelled from the party for serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to Welt.
According to the agency, the 22-year-old deputy head of the district branch of the far-right Alternative for Germany party in the city of Wuppertal, Tim Schramm, voluntarily fought on the side of Ukraine.
The party accuses him of behavior that is extremely harmful to the party because, from March to June of this year, he served as a volunteer in the Ukrainian army.
The statement from the regional leadership of the AfD says that by speaking in the ranks of the Ukrainian army and publicly commenting on his participation in hostilities, the defendant had seriously violated the principles and order of the party, causing it considerable damage.

In brief:A lawmaker for the ruling CDU party pointed out that AfD politicians in the Bundestag have asked parliamentary questions about sensitive military and security matters in recent months.
A lawmaker for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s party accused Germany’s far-right AfD party of harboring a Russian “sleeper cell” in the Bundestag on Wednesday, as per AFP.
Marc Henrichmann, a lawmaker for Merz’s centre-right Christian Democratic Union for Germany (CDU), drew attention to the fact that Action for Germany (AfD) party members have asked parliamentary questions about arms deliveries to Ukraine, power stations, drone production and army bases in recent months.

“At the very least, they have a sleeper cell loyal to Russia in their ranks,” he said. “How lucky for Vladimir Putin that the AfD exists in Germany.”
The AfD rejected Henrichmann’s accusation as “malicious” and “embarrassing” – although without offering any justification for their questions about sensitive German military and security matters.
AfD lawmaker Stefan Keuter claimed that th…
