Risk of flooding remains as damaging winds decrease overnight - WPXI
PITTSBURGH — The threat of damaging winds and tornadoes will decrease overnight, but repeated rounds of heavy rain will still cause flood concerns.
Flash flooding is possible as storms with frequent lightning and downpours continue to bring much of the area as much as 1″ to 2″ of rain overnight into early Friday morning, so watch for ponding on roads and rising creeks and streams.
Rain will taper to scattered showers throughout the day as colder air rushes in. Highs will be nearly 30 degrees colder than Thursday, struggling to get out of the 40s.

SPRING HILL ALSO DOWN TOWARDS CHALK HILL. AS WE TAKE A LOOK AT TOMORROW, WE ARE GOING TO BE SEEING TEMPERATURES THAT WILL BE RISING INTO THE 80S. A VERY MILD START TO THE DAY. LOW TEMPERATURES DOWN AROUND 72 DEGREES. AND AS WE HEAD THROUGH FRIDAY, WE WILL HAVE A CHANCE FOR A SHOWER OR TWO. THUNDERSTORM. AN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM, ALSO 85 DEGREES FOR YOUR HIGH ON FRIDAY. THEN SATURDAY WE DO BREAK OUT WITH THE SUNSHINE AFTER THE COLD FRONT CLEARS THE AREA THAT WILL LEAVE US WITH A LOWER HUMIDITY LEVELS AND MORE COMFORTABLE CONDITIONS. ON SUNDAY WE’LL HAVE CLOUDS THAT WILL REEMERGE IN THE MORNING, BUT IT SHOULD STAY DRY UP UNTIL ABOUT NOON, AND THEN WE’LL GO LATER IN THE DAY WHEN THE RAIN SHOWERS WILL ARRIVE. AS WE GO TO NEXT WEEK, TEMPERATURES DROP OFF HIGH TEMPERATURE THIS TIME OF YEAR RIGHT AROUND 78 DEGREES WILL BE AT OR BELOW THAT AS WE GO INTO NEXT WEEK, WHICH MIGHT FEEL A LITTLE REFRESHING. Well, we certainly needed some rain, but definitely didn't want to get it with the, the damage that we saw from the storms last night. However, here's *** look at the estimated 24 hour rainfall. Many areas with this darker brown or darker orange shade, uh, where 34, even 5 inches of rain fell from storms that were very slow moving, almost training, almost sitting over the same spots, and that's how you get those impressive rain. Fall amounts is with the storms just not moving through the area very quickly. Uh, some areas to the south and southwest seeing much lesser amounts of rain, but, uh, still picking up on 1 inch, 1.5 inch here. It's an impact day today. Here's *** look at what you can expect again slow moving storms will be possible later in the afternoon into the evening hours. They'll have the potential to produce some heavy rain with rainfall rates of 2 inches per. Per hour up to 2 inches per hour. Again, the timing would be late after…

Flash Flood Warning expires in Western Pennsylvania Monday
PITTSBURGH’S ACTION TRAFFIC, I’M LILY COLEMAN. AND WE ARE CONTINUING TO TRACK HEAVY RAIN THAT IS MOVING THROUGH THE AREA. WE DO HAVE A FLASH FLOOD WARNING THAT STILL IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 745 THIS EVENING FROM LUZERNE DOWN TOWARDS NORA, UP TO WASHINGTON AND OUT TO THE WEST TOWARDS THE WHEELING AREA. THEY’VE HAD AT LEAST AN INCH AND A HALF OF RAIN IN SOME LOCATIONS. THAT’S CERTAINLY ENOUGH TO CAUSE SOME PONDING OF WATER ON ROADWAYS, AS WELL AS CREEKS AND STREAMS THAT COULD COME OUT OF THEIR BANKS, ESPECIALLY LOW AREAS THAT ARE PRONE TO FLOODING. THOSE AREAS ARE PROBABLY SEEING SOME FLOODING AT THIS TIME, AND STILL COULD SEE A LITTLE BIT MORE RAIN COMING THROUGH THAT AREA OUT TO THE EAST, JUST PAST DONEGAL, NOW HEADING FOR THE SEVEN SPRINGS AREA CHAMPION, YOU’RE SEEING SOME HEAVY RAIN, LIKELY SOME VERY STRONG WIND GUSTS MOVING IN YOUR DIRECTION. ALSO JUST TO THE SOUTH OF MORGANTOWN, YOU HAVE SOME HEAVY RAIN THAT’S MOVING THROUGH. AND IF YOU’RE IN GREENE COUNTY, WE HAVE THIS BATCH OF RAIN THAT’S JUST COMIN…

Severe weather chances remain throughout the day Friday in ...
Isolated to scattered severe storms are possible in western Pennsylvania on Friday ahead of a cooldown.
There was a severe thunderstorm watch for most of the Pittsburgh area, but it's been canceled. The watch remains in effect for Venango, Clarion, Forest and Jefferson counties until 10 p.m.
A tornado warning was issued for parts of Washington and Greene counties, but it expired at 3:15 p.m.
The biggest change in the Pittsburgh area's forecast for Friday has been the addition of scattered strong to severe storms for the afternoon and early evening hours. This is mainly due to the fact that overnight storms were not as widespread as originally expected, and now areas from Route 422 and points southwest through Pittsburgh into northern West Virginia are able to build up more "fuel" since none was used in these areas last night or this morning.
Where and when will severe storms happen Friday?
Clouds are already showing signs of towering and attempting to form storms just northwest of Pittsburgh from Beaver County east through Armstrong County. Areas between Route 422 and I-70 will likely be the hotspot for any isolated to…

PITTSBURGH’S ACTION TRAFFIC. I’M LILY COLEMAN. WELL, WE DIDN’T EXACTLY JUST KIND OF EASE INTO THE WEEK. A LOT OF ACTIVITY TODAY. YES, WE DID HAVE A LOT OF ACTIVITY. TORNADO WARNINGS, CERTAINLY SOME ROTATION OUT THERE. VERY HEAVY RAIN AND LIGHTNING AND STRONG WINDS AS WELL. WE’RE JUST ABOUT TO THE END OF IT. WE STILL HAVE A FLASH FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FOR FAYETTE COUNTY. YOU CAN SEE FARMINGTON THERE. THAT’S UNTIL 9:00 TONIGHT. THEY HAVE HAD A LOT OF RAIN IN THAT AREA, POSSIBLY UP TO ONE AND A HALF, TWO INCHES OF RAIN. THEY’RE STILL NOT DONE WITH THE RAIN. IT WILL BE MOVING OUT IN THE NEXT HOUR OR SO. BUT A LOT OF RAIN IN THOSE AREAS. SO FLASH FLOOD WARNING CREEKS, STREAMS COULD COME OUT OF THEIR BANKS OR YOU HAVE PONDING ON THE ROADWAYS. IF YOU’RE DRIVING IN THAT AREA. SO THIS IS CONTINUING TO MOVE OFF TOWARDS THE EAST. YOU CAN SEE THE HEAVY RAIN MOVING EAST. AND ONCE WE GET DONE WITH THAT, WE’RE GOING TO BE IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE. WE HAVE MAYBE A FEW SPRINKLES, BUT WE HAVE CLOUDS OVERNIGHT INTO THE MORNING HOURS AND THAT’S PRETTY MUCH IT. THEN WE WILL HA…

THAT MEANS THERE’S A HIGHER LIKELIHOOD FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND FLOODING AND SENDING IT OVER TO ETHAN. NOW, ETHAN, WHAT ARE YOU SEEING FOR THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY THIS WEEK? I DO THINK WE HAVE AN ELEVATED THREAT FOR SEVERE WEATHER THROUGH TOMORROW AFTERNOON. TOMORROW EVENING. IT REALLY IS GOING TO DEPEND ON JUST HOW MUCH CLOUD COVER AND SHOWER ACTIVITY WE HAVE IN THE MORNING. THE THICKER THE CLOUD COVER, THE MORE RAIN WE GET IN THE MORNING. THAT COULD LOWER THE RISK FOR TOMORROW AFTERNOON. BUT IF WE SEE MORE SUNSHINE AND FEWER SHOWERS OUT THERE, THAT COULD INCREASE THE RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER TOMORROW. IT WAS A WARM DAY. TODAY WILL BE CLOSE TO THE RECORD HIGH AGAIN TOMORROW BEFORE THE SHOWERS BUILD ON IN, BUT WE ARE MAKING TOMORROW AN IMPACT DAY FOR THE THREAT FOR THOSE STRONG, POTENTIALLY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. AND THEN AS THAT STORM MOVES ON BY, COLD AIR BUILDS BACK IN, TEMPERATURES WILL BE BACK DOWN CLOSER TO AVERAGE. TO END TH…

THE GAME COMMISSION IS NOW CARING FOR THAT BIRD. DOWN, ESPECIALLY BEFORE ANY STORMS. BEFORE MORE STORMS COME THROUGH THE AREA. SOME VIOLENT STORMS FROM PITTSBURGH DOWN TO THE SOUTH. NUMEROUS DAMAGE REPORTS. WE’VE SEEN LOTS OF TREES, POWER LINES THAT ARE DOWN AND POWER THAT’S OUT IN A LOT OF LOCATIONS RIGHT NOW. WE’RE KIND OF THE CALM BETWEEN THE TWO STORMS. WE HAD THE FIRST ROUND THAT HAS MOVED THROUGH ALREADY. SECOND ROUND WILL BE MOVING THROUGH HERE IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS. HIGH TEMPERATURE TODAY, 81 DEGREES. RIGHT NOW WE’RE SITTING AT 75 DEGREES. AND ACROSS THE BOARD, WE’RE NOW DOWN INTO THE 70S. MOST LOCATIONS HIT AT LEAST THE LOW 80S EARLIER TODAY, BUT WITH THE RAIN THAT HAS MOVED THROUGH, WE HAVE DROPPED IT BACK INTO THE 70S. TOMORROW MORNING WE’LL DROP DOWN JUST BELOW 60 DEGREES. AND THEN AS WE GO INTO THE DAY, WE WILL HAVE CLOUDS. IN THE MORNING, WE’LL HAVE SOME FOG IN THE MORNING, AND THEN WE WILL HAVE …

We do have *** couple of more days to go, one more day specifically of our extreme heat warning and our heat advisory across Western Pennsylvania. Now, depending on what happens with showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, this could get extended one more day, especially around Allegheny County. So we'll see kind of how tomorrow plays out, but it's still going to be dangerously hot as we head through your Friday. High temperatures should still be into the lower middle 90s. Feels like values will still climb well into the triple digits. We'll start them backing down each day, even though high. In the 90s this weekend, it won't feel quite as bad as we get through the weekend. That's thanks to cloud cover and also our rain chances for the weekend and then temperatures finally break out of this heat wave as Monday our highs will be in the 80s. That is closer to where we should be for this time of year. Starting tomorrow we're watching for the chance for thunderstorms. We now have *** scattered rest. That's *** level 2 out o…

RAIN TODAY. BE PREPARED FOR MORE SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS AND TROPICAL DOWNPOURS TO POP UP TOMORROW. THAT’S WHY TOMORROW IS AN IMPACT DAY. THURSDAY AND FRIDAY ALSO HAVE STORM CHANCES, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THEY’LL BE FEWER IN NUMBER AND POSSIBLY A LITTLE BIT LESS INTENSE THAN WHAT WE’RE EXPECTING TOMORROW. BEST CHANCE FOR STORMS ON FRIDAY WILL BE SOUTH OF THE TURNPIKE. OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW IT IS A CALM BUT MUGGY EVENING. TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW IN EPHRATA ARE AT 78 DEGREES AND YOU CAN SEE THE WINDS ARE CALM. DEW POINTS STILL SOUPY, SITTING. IN THE 70S, WE WERE WATCHING OUT FOR THE CHANCE FOR SOME ISOLATED THUNDERSHOWERS THAT DIDN’T MATERIALIZE. WE HAVE BREAKS IN THE CLOUDS RIGHT NOW. SHOWERS BACK TOWARDS JOHNSTOWN AND OVER THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS. THAT’S WHERE THEY WILL STAY THROUGH THE NIGHT. TONIGHT, LOOK FOR PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES, POSSIBLY SOME FOG WILL DEVELOP AS WE GO THROUGH THE NIGHT, WITH TEMPERATURES JUST HOVERING IN THE LOW TO MID 70S. TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN TH…

WEEK FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. TIME NOW FOR ANOTHER LOOK AT WEATHER. AND IT IS AN IMPACT DAY. JILL, WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT? WELL, WE’RE SEEING MORE STORMS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, SO THINGS ARE JUST FINE RIGHT NOW. IF YOU’VE GOT SOME RUNNING AROUND TO DO, WE’VE GOT SOME LITTLE LEAGUE GAMES TODAY. THINGS SHOULD BE JUST FINE. BUT AFTER 3:00, SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL SHOW UP. THEY’LL LAST THROUGH ABOUT 7 P.M. WITH STILL MORE RAIN ON TAP AS WE GO THROUGH THE NIGHT. FEELING VERY SUMMERLIKE TODAY. NOT SO MUCH TOMORROW. BLUSTERY CONDITIONS WITH A FEW SHOWERS, MAYBE EVEN A FLURRY OR TWO. THE FARTHER NORTH YOU ARE BY THE END OF THE DAY SUNDAY. FOR THE TIME BEING TODAY THOUGH, SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS. AREA ONE IS EVERYBODY IN THAT YELLOW SHADING AS WE WORK THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE OUR PRIMARY THREAT, BUT ALSO…

YOU’LL SEE HOW THEY WILL TAIL OFF AS WE GO OVERNIGHT AND INTO TOMORROW MORNING. AS FAR AS TEMPERATURES, WE’RE LOOKING AT HIGHS TOMORROW. THAT WILL BE BACK INTO THE 40S, BUT ABOUT 2025 DEGREES COLDER THAN WHERE WE WERE TODAY. THE WIND WILL DIE DOWN AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW, SO NEXT FOUR DAYS LOOK LIKE THIS ON SUNDAY, AN IMPACT DAY. LOW OF 31, HIGH OF 36. THAT’S WHERE WE’LL HAVE LIGHT SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS IN AND AROUND PITTSBURGH, AND THEN SOME STEADY SNOW FOR ABOUT 24 TO 36 HOURS IN THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS.
