The blaze, which erupted near an iconic glass skyscraper designed by renowned architectRenzo Piano, gutted the Syctom recycling plant, one of the city’s largest waste management centres. The fire had begun underground in a basement recycling zone packed with flammable materials, according to Geoffrey Boulard, mayor of the 17th arrondissement.
