Shohei Ohtani injury: Dodgers downplay star's knee, blister issues ...
Los Angeles Dodgers
superstar
Shohei Ohtani
entered his Wednesday (pitching) start against the
Rays
with concerns about his balky left knee. He left that start with concerns about a blister on his pitching hand.
The Dodgers wound up notching the comeback
5-4
win to complete the three-game sweep over the visiting Rays, but Ohtani endured his worst start of the season thus far, at least from a run-prevention standpoint:

This comes off his previous start in which he allowed four runs, three earned, against the
Pirates
on June 10. As a result, Ohtani has seen his ERA rise from 0.74 prior to the start against Pittsburgh to 1.47 after Wednesday's start. Even though Ohtani's ERA has roughly doubled over that span, it's still the second-lowest in the majors among pitchers who have worked at least 50 innings this season. Only
Brewers
ace
Jacob Misiorowski
, at 1.34, has a lower mark.
Against the Rays, Ohtani's stuff looked crisp, and he opened the game with four scoreless innings. In the fifth, however, the blister on his right middle …

Shohei Ohtani hits leadoff home run vs. White Sox - MLB.com
CHICAGO -- As the White Sox put the finishing touches on an
8-2 rout
of the Dodgers on Friday night, when their biggest star was out of the lineup, a chant broke out from a section at Rate Field that had gone full "Tarps Off."
Dodgers Soccer Jersey Giveaway is Tuesday!
"We want Shohei! We want Shohei!"
Shohei Ohtani
was out of Friday's lineup due to inflammation in his left knee, but he was
back in the starting nine
for Saturday's
7-1 win
. He punctuated his return with a leadoff home run off White Sox starter Sean Burke.
Fans on the South Side wanted to see Ohtani. And they got him.
Ohtani's 14th home run of the season traveled a Statcast-projected 409 feet to right field at 109.6 mph off the bat. He went on to draw three walks and score another run later in the game. He never really needed to test his knee on the basepaths, but he feels that he's in a good spot.
"I felt good waking up in the morning. I feel good now," Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton. "So I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to stay healthy, and should be good to go tomorrow as well."
In his third year as a Dodger, Ohtani is rapidly ascendi…

Shohei Ohtani
is back like he never left.
The
Los Angeles Dodgers
star was a noticeable absence from the lineup on June 12 as he dealt with left knee inflammation. It came after he was pulled from the team's June 11 game and underwent an MRI, which came back clean.
Whether Ohtani makes his next start or not remains to be seen, but the two-way star was
inserted into the lineup on June 13
. Installed in the leadoff spot, Ohtani left no doubt about his health on the second pitch of the game from
Chicago White Sox
starter
Sean Burke
.
Ohtani deposited a rocket into the right field seats at a blazing 109.6 mph exit velocity. The ball landed 409 feet away from where the star made contact.
In other words, the knee looks good after his 14th round-tripper of the season.
The play served as a reminder of the damage Ohtani can do with his bat in the midst of a season that has been all about his pitching. His pace is off at the plate, but his 1.06…

After he was virtually untouchable in his first nine appearances of the season,
Shohei Ohtani
, the pitcher, is mired in a two-start funk on the mound.
Ohtani, who gave up one or no runs in eight of his first nine starts, gave up more runs in one inning — four — on Wednesday, June 17 than he did in his first five starts. And now he has a pair of nagging physical issues to monitor.
Making his first start since sitting out a game as a hitter due to left knee inflammation, Ohtani was peppered for four singles, a double and a walk as the
Tampa Bay Rays
batted around in the fifth inning.
After the inning, cameras caught small traces of blood on his pants, from the middle finger on his pitching hand, although Ohtani came out to pitch a scoreless sixth and even served as pinch-hitter in the bottom of the inning.
Despite his struggles he ended up the winning pitcher, after Freddie Freeman clubbed a go-ahead two-…
