UP TET 2026: Yogi Adityanath orders separate TET for In-Service teachers
UP TET 2026: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) to conduct a separate Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for in-service teachers, aiming to provide them with adequate opportunities to meet the mandatory eligibility requirements.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting held to assess preparations for the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026.
The Chief Minister said that since qualifying the TET is mandatory, serving teachers should not be deprived of career progression or promotional opportunities due to limited chances to appear for the examination.
He instructed the commission to introduce a dedicated TET for in-service teachers so they can establish their eligibility without facing unnecessary hurdles.
The UPTET 2026 will be conducted from July 2 to July 4 across 955 examination centres in 60 districts in five shifts.
Around 20 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the examination.
During the review meeting, Adityanath stressed that the examination should be conducted with complet…

The Supreme Court held that teachers with more than five years of service remaining must clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to continue in their jobs. It referred to a larger Bench the question of whether theRight to Education Act, 2009(RTE Act), applies to Minority Educational Institutions (MEI).
Anjuman Ishaat-e-Taleem Trust, an MEI, challenged the authorities’ refusal to allow the recruitment of teachers who had not cleared the TET. It relied on a 2014 Constitution Bench ruling inPramati Educational and Cultural Trust v Union of India, which held that the RTE Act (the TET was notified under Section 23) does not apply to either aided or unaided MEIs. HYDERABAD: The Telangana Teachers Association, along with the All India Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisations (AIJACTO), has called upon the Central government to urgently intervene in the Supreme Court judgment mandating that teachers appointed prior to the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act must clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) within two years or face termination of service. The ruling is expected to affect nearly 30 lakh teachers across the country.
A delegation led by Chava Ravi, president of Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TS UTF), met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Parliament, New Delhi, on Friday and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate relief for affected teachers.
During the interaction, teachers’ representatives demanded job protection for senior teachers, even if it requires legislative amendments. They also sought relaxation in the TET syllabus and qualifying marks, citing the long years of service rendered by teachers appointed prior to the Act.
Chava Ravi expressed concern that six months have already elapsed since the judg…

Teachers' Body Seeks Protection for Pre-TET Appointees
New Delhi-A national-level teachers’ organisation on Friday said it plans to seek legislative and policy protection for teachers appointed before the TET was notified as a mandatory qualification in 2010.
A letter in this regard will be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on June 18, the Delhi unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) said in a statement.
Over 25 lakh teachers across the country are facing anxiety and uncertainty following the Supreme Court’s May 29 order disposing of review petitions related to TET eligibility requirements, the organisation said.
It further said the National Council for Teacher Education notified the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) as a minimum qualification for teachers on August 23, 2010. Before that, appointments in various states had already been made in accordance with the rules, eligibility criteria and selection procedures prevailing at the time, it said.
The ABRSM said teachers appointed before the notification had made significant contributions to nation-building, quality education, social awareness and charac…

ET Promise: Can Legal Hurdles Stop Jagan's Plan? The viral promise made by Andhra Pradesh's former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to exempt in-service teachers from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) faces significant legal obstacles.

Many teachers who joined before the TET rule argue that writing the exam after 20-25 years of service is unfair, but the TET Promise may not be enforceable without central government support.
The TET Promise is not under the control of the AP government alone, as the test is mandated by the RTE Act and NCTE regulations. This means the state cannot grant exemptions unilaterally. Jagan made a political commitment without clarifying these legal aspects, leading to confusion and frustration among teachers who feel their genuine concerns have been overlooked.
For the TET Promise to be implemented, the NCTE and Central Government must collaborate. Any decision by the coalition government must withstand judicial scrutiny to be valid. Without a clear legal path, promises to sidestep these issues risk remaining empty slogans, further eroding trust among educators.
In conclusion, J…

Jagan’s TET Promise Sounds Easy. The Law Says Otherwise
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has promised in-service teachers that he will resolve the TET issue if he returns to power. While the assurance may have pleased teachers, it leaves one important question unanswered. Can any state government simply exempt teachers from the Teacher Eligibility Test?
Many of these teachers joined the service before TET became mandatory. They argue that asking them to write the exam after 20 to 25 years of service is unfair. Their concern is genuine and deserves attention.
However, TET is not a rule created by the Andhra Pradesh government. It is part of the teacher qualification norms framed under the Right to Education Act and the National Council for Teacher Education. Any exemption has to comply with these legal provisions. It cannot be promised by a former chief minister, just like that.
Instead of explaining how he would legally resolve the issue, Jagan once again chose to make a political promise. The coalition government maintains that any decision must stand the test of law and should not create fresh leg…

Forto Seeks Tet Exemption for In-Service Teachers
Anantapur:The Forum of Registered Teacher Organisations (Forto) on Monday demanded exemption from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for in-service teachers and organised statewide round-table conferences at district headquarters and protests in schools.
Teachers displayed placards during the protests and sought to draw the attention of both the Central and State governments to their demand.
Forto state chairman Karanam Harikrishna, secretary general Ankala Kondaiah, working president Dr B. Seenu, working general secretary Maganti Srinivasa Rao and other leaders participated in the programmes.
Forto leaders said it was unfair to make TET qualification mandatory for teachers after they had already entered service, when no such requirement existed for employees in other government departments. They argued that requiring teachers with decades of experience to appear for a qualifying examination again overlooked their contribution to the education sector.
They said teachers with 20 to 30 years of service viewed the policy as detrimental to their professional dignity and experience.
Forto urged the Central government to amend the R…
