Coastal tourism in India has been attracting tourists from across the country and the world, and the Karnataka government is now looking to capitalise on the trend as it recently announced the formulation of a dedicated coastal tourism policy aimed at unlocking the economic potentials of the state's 300 km coastline.

Bengaluru:Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday said the state government would hold a Cabinet meeting in the coastal region, and directed officials to resolve technical issues affecting tourism and investment projects ahead of it.Chairing a meeting on coastal tourism at Vidhana Soudha, he instructed officials to prepare a report within 15 to 20 days on technical obstacles arising from Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms and issues related to the Forest Department, identifying both problems and possible solutions.
Stressing the need to facilitate investments, the CM said, "We must create smooth and simple pathways for investors; departmental hurdles faced by entrepreneurs must be resolved."
He directed officials to promote the culture, traditions, customs and heritage of the coastal region at the international level, while giving priority to employment generation and economic growth, the CM's office said in a statement.

The Karnataka government announced on Thursday that it is working on a dedicated “coastal tourism policy” and invited private players to partner in its growth story in the sector.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, in his address at a tourism and hospitality conference here, said the state is envisioning coming up with this policy, and projecting its coastal assets on the lines of Kerala and Goa.
Karnataka Tourism Minister H K Patil said the state government has identified 40 strategic nodes for development under the new policy.
“Last month, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the deputy chief minister to create a clear strategy for coastal tourism in Karnataka,” Patil said.
He asserted that Karnataka is endowed with a beautiful, nearly 320-km coastline, and termed coastal tourism a “priority”.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka government will soon announce the first-ever coastal tourism policy. This will be separate from the existing tourism policy.
Chairing the meeting along with Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday, Tourism Minister KJ George said this new policy will soon be released and announced in a cabinet meeting that will be held in Mangaluru. The meeting on Friday was to take inputs from all stakeholders before finalising it.
Adding to this, LK Ateeq, financial advisor to CM, said that before the new policy, all the required approvals will be taken and finalised. He also said at the meeting, stakeholders raised concerns over the method of operations, business opportunities and stringent laws.
Pertaining to the Coastal Regular Zones (CRZ) rules, Ateeq said, the stakeholders pointed out that it was a big concern. They informed the CM that the rules were more stringent in Karnataka when compared to Kerala and Goa. The CM said that he will lead a delegation to the Union government to seek amendments and relaxations to the existing CRZ rules.
