The tournament surpassed the previous all-time attendance record during Thursday’s Group E clash between Ecuador and Germany at New York New Jersey Stadium, before going on to extend the mark even further by the end of the day’s play.

June 16 alone produced a World Cup record, with 281,223 fans attending matches. Argentina's clash with Algeria drew a capacity crowd of 69,045 in Kansas City, while France vs. Senegal attracted 80,545 spectators in New York/New Jersey. has become the most-attended tournament in football history after surpassing the five million spectator mark during France’s 3-0 Round of 32 victory over Sweden, FIFA announced.
According to FIFA, total attendance has reached 5,048,079 spectators, eclipsing the previous record of 3,587,538 set at the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

was broken on Thursday, June 25, with 3,605,357 fans — and growing — so far. That breaks the previous attendance record of 3,587,538 fans set at the 1994 World Cup, which also was held in the United States.
