Ship targeted off Kuwait as vessel attacks widen | Latest Market News
A vessel appears to have come under attack off Kuwait, leaving oil leaking from its cargo tank, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said today.
The UKMTO said it had received a report of an incident 30 miles (48km) southeast of Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Kuwait at 22:40 GMT. The tanker was at anchor and its vessel master reported seeing a large explosion on the port side of the ship, then witnessed a small craft leaving the vicinity.
Oil from a cargo tank is leaking into the water and this may have some environmental impact, the UKMTO said. The vessel has taken on water but there have been no fires and the crew are safe.
The identity of the vessel is unclear.
This is the latest in aspate of attackson vessels in the Mideast Gulf since since US and Israeli forces struck Iran on 28 February. But the attack near Kuwait is much further north than previous incidents, which have been concentrated around the strait of Hormuz.
Iran has threatened to burn any ship that tries to pass through the strait. It has a drone carrier ship stationed near the strait that it could use to attack transiting vessels, according to ship…

Man arrested in cargo ship crash with tanker carrying US military fuel
LONDON — British police arrested a man on suspicion of manslaughter as they searched for answers about why a cargo ship
hit a tanker transporting jet fuel for the U.S. military
off eastern England, setting both vessels ablaze. One sailor was presumed dead.
Humberside Police said the 59-year-old was detained “on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with the collision.” The man, who was not named by police, has not been charged.
U.K. officials were watching for damage to birds and sea life after jet fuel from a ruptured tank poured into the North Sea when the Portugal-registered container ship Solong broadsided the U.S.-flagged tanker MV Stena Immaculate on Monday. The collision sparked explosions and fires that burned for more than 24 hours.
Footage filmed from a helicopter on Tuesday morning showed the fire appeared to largely be out on the tanker, which had a large gash on its port side.
The U.K. coast guard agency said Tuesday that “the Solong is still alight and the fire on board the Stena Immaculate has greatly diminished.” It said the cargo ship was drifting south, away from the tanker,…
