2025 AUSTRALIAN WEATHER OUTLOOK
2025 is the 54th closest-average-yearly-perigee between 1900-2030, this year shows a very dry November/December. But it is the year of the Jupiter/Saturn square, which tends to bring wetter conditions to Australia especially Summer (January-May) and in the latter 2-3 months of 2025.
GENERAL WEATHER:
Patchy rainfall across southern Australia may mean that long-term droughts could persist in the far southwest and in the southeast, including parts of the Murray-Darling Basin, all of VIC and northern Tasmania. Despite promising rains during the first half of the year, July to October is dry across the south, with widespread above-average rainfall returning in November. But cool temperatures during June are a result of unusually heavy rains over northern Australia, and a series of low-pressure systems, including one which may cause flooding around Newcastle. High temperatures are in the west during February, in the east during May, and across parts of the south during November. Overall, annual mean temperatures may b…

Days before winter officially begins,
Australians
are getting a preview of what's in store for the next three months – and it might not be the
season

After a warmer-than-usual autumn, the Bureau of Meteorology's long-range outlook shows that much of the country is heading for a double dose of milder daytime conditions and warmer-than-normal nights.
Meanwhile, the southern half of the continent is on track for a parched winter, with rainfall expected to fall well short of typical totals.

The Bureau says rain is still expected this season, but overall amounts will likely be lower than usual.

It's almost winter. Why is Australia still so hot?
The Conversation09 May 2025, 03:47 GMT+10
This year, for many Australians, it feels like summer never left. The sunny days and warm nights have continued well into autumn. Even now, in May, it's still unusually warm.
Much of the southern half of the continent is experiencing both unseasonable warmth and dry conditions. This is linked to persistent high atmospheric pressure (called "blocking") to the south and southeast of Australia.
While temperatures will fall across southern Australia as we approach the winter solstice, early indications are that this winter will be a warm one. Rainfall predictions are less certain.
The extra warmth we've experienced raises obvious questions about the influence of human-caused climate change. The warming signal is clear and it's a sign of things to come.

Australia is no stranger to record heat these days.
Every year we set far more heat records than cold records.
In recent months plenty of records have been re-written, and 2025 is already on track to be one of our hottest years – if not the hottest.

Australia Records Its Coldest Night of 2025: A Deep Freeze in ... - 搜狐
On a chilling night, Australia has officially recorded its coldest temperature of 2025, reaching a bone-chilling
-13.2°C
at Thredbo Top Station. This significant drop in temperature has not only set a new record for the year but also marked the coldest night in New South Wales since 2018, surpassing the previous year’s record by more than three degrees. In this article, we will explore the factors contributing to this extreme cold, compare the temperatures across various regions, and consider the implications of such weather patterns.
The Record-Breaking Cold Snap
The extraordinary cold snap witnessed in Thredbo Top Station has been attributed to several climatic factors. Notably, it is the lowest temperature recorded in Australia since
-13.5°C
was logged in Liawenee, Tasmania, on July 4, 2024. The temperatures across Australia’s eight states and territories reflect this icy trend:
NSW
: -13.2°C at Thredbo Top Station
VIC
: -7.6°C at Mount Hotham
ACT
: -6.1°C in Canberra
QLD
: -4.3°C at Applethorpe
TAS
: -4.2°C at Ouse
SA
: -0.1°C at Keith West
NT

Parts of Australia on track for warmest start to winter on record amid influx of tropical air
10 mins ago
By ABC meteorologist Tom Saunders
An influx of humid, tropical air has resulted in a remarkably warm and relatively wet start to winter across Australia.
And with abnormally high temperatures forecast to continue, many regions are on track for the warmest start to winter on record.
While the mild weather has set back the snow season, farmers are rejoicing with twin rainbands forecast to soak southern states this week.
Winter temperatures running at mid-autumn levels
Short spells of warm weather are not unusual in early winter, however the current prolonged run of unseasonable heat is heading into its second week and for south-east states, daily temperatures will persist at around 5 degrees Celsius above normal.
Sydney is on track for its warmest start to winter on record, beating all years back to 1859 when the site opened, with maximums averaging comfortably above 20C so far this June, and overnight minimums above 12C.
Hobart is also seeing a record mild start to June with temperatures around 3 degrees…

Weather forecasters have reported this winter will be significantly warmer than average
Thought your hot girl summer was over? Well, it turns out your hot girl winter is just heating up. Last year, Australia sweated through its warmest winter on record, followed by its third-warmest summer, with temperatures in Carnarvon, WA hitting a scorching 49.9 degrees. And the wild weather rollercoaster continues, as the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has given its verdict on what's in store for Aussies this winter. Unfortunately, the details are pretty concerning.
According to the BOM’s weather forecasters, the whole country is heading into what could be the warmest winter ever recorded. Days and nights are highly likely to be noticeably warmer than average, with a very strong chance that both the median maximum and minimum temperatures will be "unusually warm".
For the majority of NSW, QLD, TAS and VIC, plus southern parts of SA and WA, it's predicted that temperatures are four times more likely to be in the top 20 per cent of the hottest recorded between June and August.
As for whether we'll be getting good use out of our …
