A wildfire was burning around 230 acres of Beacon Hill and racing into Spokane’s Northwood neighborhood as firefighters aided by aircraft tried to save homes. Crews on scene said that there was 0% containment as strong winds continued to push the fire east on Tuesday afternoon. At least five homes were destroyed and about 500 more were threatened. The fire prompted a Level 3 evacuation for residents living between Bigelow Gulch on the north side of the fire, Upriver Drive on the south, Northwood to the east and Argonne on the west.
