(Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s federal government said Tuesday that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures against Israel over its deepening engagement with Somaliland, describing any such contacts as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and constitutional order.
In a statement issued Monday, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed what it called “profound concern” over continued engagement by the Israeli administration with the Somaliland administration in northern Somalia outside the framework of the Federal Government of Somalia.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia expresses its profound concern regarding reports of engagement by the Israeli administration with the secessionist administration of the northern region of Somalia outside the framework of the Federal Government of Somalia,” the ministry said.
The Somali government reiterated that it alone holds the authority to conduct the country’s international relations.

The Northeastern regional administration has accused Somaliland of deploying troops near disputed border areas, warning that the move could destabilize both the region and the wider Horn of Africa.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Northeastern officials said Somaliland was preparing for a possible attack against their newly established administration. The statement described the buildup as a “grave threat” to peace and stability, noting that the government was “closely monitoring” the situation.
“This planned action poses a grave threat to the peace and stability we have worked hard to establish, and could affect the entire Horn of Africa region,” the statement read.
The administration made it clear that it considered any military aggression from Somaliland unacceptable and would hold Somaliland fully responsible for the consequences. It also urged the Federal Government of Somalia to uphold its constitutional responsibility to prote…

Mogadishu Warns of Foreign Military Ambitions in Somaliland
The Federal Government of Somalia has publicly expressed concern over what it describes as emerging Israeli military ambitions in the territory of Somaliland, a self-declared republic that remains internationally unrecognised but has developed increasingly autonomous political and economic structures since declaring independence in 1991.
According to officials in Mogadishu, reports suggesting that Israel may seek to establish surveillance capabilities or a military presence along Somaliland’s coastline constitute a direct challenge to Somali sovereignty. The federal authorities argue that any bilateral security arrangement between Israel and Somaliland would represent an unlawful foreign military deployment on Somali territory.
These allegations have intensified diplomatic tensions in the Horn of Africa, a region already characterised by overlapping geopolitical rivalries, contested maritime routes and growing competition for control over strategic energy corridors.

Kenyan senator says it’s time for Somalia to accept facts and Somaliland to join community of nations
-Guurti Speaker tells off Somalia and asks them to be mature
By M.A. Egge
It is quite dumbfounding just as it is infuriating to see government observing 26 June Somaliland Independence Day.
The sentiments expressed by none other than the President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Musa Bihi Abdi on the one of the 61st Anniversary of Somaliland Independence Day that was got from Britaion on the 26th June.
The Head of State saw the Somalia move dumbfounding as it was illogical for them to celebrate an Independence Day of an entity it claims to be a province of its own!
The President laid bare the hypocrisy the so-called federal government
of Somalia repeatedly indulges in as concerns Somaliland.
The half-hour articulate speech mainly focused on the difference between Somaliland and Somalia, in essence, and why this country progressed politically since severing ties with Mogadishu and why the latter have not.

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s federal government on Monday condemned Israel’s growing ties with Somaliland, describing the engagement as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, following a historic visit by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Irro” to Israel and the opening of Somaliland’s first embassy in Jerusalem.
In a statement, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said it was “profoundly concerned” by Israeli engagement with what it termed the “secessionist administration” in northern Somalia outside the framework of the Federal Government.
“The Federal Republic of Somalia considers any such engagement a violation of its sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and constitutional order,” the ministry said.
The statement came as Irro concluded a landmark visit to Israel, the first by a Somaliland president since Israel formally recognized Somaliland as an independent state last year.

AU rejects Israel's Somaliland envoy move, calls recognition 'null and void'
By BRUHAN MAKONGMonday April 20, 2026
The African Union has condemned Israel’s appointment of a diplomatic envoy to Somaliland, reaffirming its position that the territory remains part of Somalia and warning the move could destabilise the Horn of Africa region.
The African Union has condemned reports that Israel has appointed a diplomatic envoy to the self-declared Republic of Somaliland, reiterating that any unilateral recognition of the territory is “null and void” under international law.
In a statement, the African Union Commission expressed “deep concern” over the move, warning that it risks undermining regional stability and contravenes the bloc’s long-standing position on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.
“The Union does not recognize Somaliland as an independent state.”
The Commission further cited a January 6 communiqué of the African Union Peace and Security Council, stressing that any unilateral recognition of Somaliland would be invalid and could destabilize the Horn of Africa.
Tensions have escalated following reports that Israel has appointed Michael Lotem, a former…

Türkiye Calls Israel's Recognition of Somaliland 'Illegitimate'
Türkiye’s president on Tuesday called Israel's recognition of Somaliland "illegitimate and unacceptable" as he hosted a visit by his Somali counterpart.
"Preserving the unity and integrity of Somalia in all circumstances holds special importance in our view. Israel's decision to recognize Somaliland is illegitimate and unacceptable," Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a press conference alongside Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Israel sparked criticism last Friday when it said it was officially recognizing Somaliland -- a breakaway territory in Somalia's north.
The declaration was a first for the territory, which in 1991 had unilaterally declared secession from Somalia.
Israel's move has drawn widespread criticism from the African Union, Egypt and the European Union, which insist on war-torn Somalia's sovereignty.
Türkiye has frequently clashed with Israel over a range of issues, especially over the conflict in Gaza and Israeli obstruction of aid to the Palestinian territory.
Mohamud said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's "aggressive position, which also includes Somalia, is unacceptable".

Mogadishu (Somalia Today) —
Somalia warned on Thursday that no part of its territory could serve as a springboard for foreign military operations, after
reports
that Israel is considering a base in the breakaway Somaliland region in Somalia.
Ali Omar, Somalia’s state minister for foreign affairs, said Mogadishu did not want Somali territory to be “pulled into external confrontations” or used in ways that could further destabilise an already fragile region.
The warning followed reports this week by
Bloomberg
and Sweden’s public radio
Ekot
that Israel was exploring a military installation near the strategic port city of Berbera on the Gulf of Aden, directly opposite Yemen.
Omar said only Somalia’s federal government has the authority to enter into international security or military arrangements on behalf of…

The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a strong warning at the global level, saying any country that compromises its territorial integrity could face restrictions related to access to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key maritime route linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.
The remarks were made by Somalia’s envoy to Ethiopia and the African Union, Abdullahi Mohamed Warfa, following 'Israel’s' decision to appoint a diplomatic envoy to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland.

The president of Somalia has strongly denounced the Israeli regime’s interference in his country’s internal affairs and vowed to “confront” any Israeli military presence in the breakaway region of Somaliland. In an interview on Feb. 7, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state is a “reckless, fundamentally wrong and illegal action under international law.”
Somaliland is a breakaway region in northwestern Somalia, covering territory that was once part of the British Protectorate. Despite its unilateral separation, it remains internationally recognized as part of Somalia.
The region occupies a strategic position along one of the world’s most vital maritime choke points, an area already surrounded by overlapping conflicts in the Horn of Africa and West Asia.
In recent years, Somaliland has sought foreign support by developing ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a signatory to…

Garoowe, Somalia
— A profound political fissure has opened in Somalia, with the regional states of Puntland and Jubbaland jointly declaring their decisive loss of confidence in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS). In a forceful communiqué issued after a summit in Garoowe from
June 23-26, 2025
, the two administrations accused the FGS of systematically violating the Provisional Constitution, unlawfully asserting power, and politically weaponizing international aid, national airspace management, and regional election processes.
The joint statement directly challenged the FGS’s adherence to the foundational agreements that underpin Somalia’s federal system. “The FGS has violated the Provisional Constitution, using national powers for political interests and as a tool of oppression against member states,” the communiqué asserted.
Rejecting Federal Representation and Seeking International Recourse
Puntland and Jubbaland explicitly stated their refusal to recognize the FGS as a complete representative of all Somali citizens’ interests. In a significant escalation, they announced their intent to formally complain to…
