NAJAF, July 7 - The coffin of Iran’s slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei arrived in Iraq’s holy city of Najaf on Tuesday after funeral ceremonies in Iran, bringing a multi-day procession to one of Shi'ite Islam's most sacred sites following the leader's death in a February 28 U.S.-Israeli strike.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and senior Iraqi officials received the coffin at Najaf International Airport ahead of funeral ceremonies and a mass public procession, state TV reported.
Najaf holds special significance for Shi'ites worldwide as the burial place of Imam Ali, the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Mohammad.

President Pezeshkian arrives in Iraq's Najaf
TEHRAN, Jul. 07 (MNA) – President Masoud Pezehskian of Iran arrived in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf and was received by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ahead of the funeral procession for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
The Iranian president received a warm welcome from the Iraqi premier and some other high-ranking Iraqi officials.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and the martyred Leader's eldest son Mostapha Khamenei are reported to join the President Pezeshkian during the funeral procession.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister al-Zaidi was reported to have declared tomorrow, Wednesday, a public holiday across Iraq to mark the funeral ceremony of Iran’s martyred Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Iraqi authorities have completed preparations for the funeral procession in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, media reported on Tuesday afternoon.

Najaf, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi attended an official reception ceremony at Najaf International Airport on Tuesday evening to receive the body of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, ahead of funeral rites scheduled to take place in Iraq.

Ali Khamenei in Najaf on Wednesday, while around 4,300 Iraqi and foreign
journalists covered the event, the Higher Committee for the Funeral Ceremonies
announced.

time and continued throughout the day, with media coverage including nearly
1,000 accredited international journalists and about 3,300 Iraqi media workers
