LOS ANGELES (AP) — The superintendent of Los Angeles public schools has resigned four months after he was puton paid leaveduring a federal investigation, saying he wants students to learn “without distraction.”
Alberto Carvalho‘s resignation letter dated Sunday made no direct mention of the FBI’s Feb. 25 search of his home and the LA Unified School District’s headquarters. Two days after theFBI served the search warrants, the district’s Board of Education voted unanimously to place Carvalho on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities have not provided details ofthe nature of the investigationinvolving the district, which serves more than 500,000 students. LOS ANGELES (KABC) --The superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District resigned Sunday night, nearly four months after the FBI served search warrants at his home and the LAUSD's headquarters as part of an ongoing investigation.
An LAUSD spokesperson confirmed to Eyewitness News that the district received a letter of resignation from Carvalho.
"It has been a great honor to serve you," Carvalho wrote in a letter addressed to "the students, families, teachers, staff, and community of LAUSD," theLos Angeles Times reported. "Over the past four years, together, we have made historic progress - gains that belong to our students, our educators, staff and our communities."
On Feb. 27, two days after the FBI conducted searches at Carvalho's home and LAUSD offices, the district's Board of Educationvoted unanimously to place him on leavepending the outcome of the probe.
