The Delhi Government has announced the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy, 2026, which came into effect on July 1, 2026, and will remain operational until March 31, 2030. This policy aims to promote a clean, modern, and pollution-free transport system in the capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the policy seeks to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Delhi, enhance air quality, reduce reliance on traditional fuels, expand charging and battery-swapping infrastructure, and establish a robust EV ecosystem. The policy gives equal importance to financial incentives, digital transparency, institutional monitoring, and environmental responsibility.

The national capital will launch a seven-year,₹8,300-crore air pollution mitigation programme with financial support from the World Bank, with the initiative aimed at reducing emissions from major pollution sources set to begin in September, chief minister Rekha Gupta announced on Friday.
The World Bank will finance 65% of the project cost, while the remaining 35% will be borne by the Delhi government, said officials.
The programme, titled “Clean Air, Healthy Delhi”, will be implemented by the environment department from September 2026 to August 2033 across all 13 districts of the Capital. It has been designed to accelerate implementation of Delhi’s air pollution mitigation plans, support the objectives of the National Clean Air Programme and contribute to the Centre’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
Announcing the initiative, Gupta said a workshop involving government departments, key agencies and senior World Bank officials will be held on July 10 to finalise implementation plans and improve coordination among stakeholders before the project is rolled out.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the "Clean Air, Healthy Delhi" project will be implemented from September 2026 to August 2033 and will aim to strengthen air quality management and reduce emissions from major pollution sources across the city.
Gupta said a special workshop will be held on July 10 to finalise preparations for the programme and strengthen coordination among all stakeholders.
The workshop will define the roles of various departments and agencies and discuss the roadmap for the effective and timely implementation of the project, she said.

NEW DELHI – India’s capital New Delhi will ban new petrol- and natural gas-fuelled two-wheelers and small trucks from its roads over the next two years in one of the most aggressive moves yet by an Indian state to curb air pollution.
