What’s In the $70 Billion Bill Funding Immigration Enforcement
Federal immigration enforcement is set to receive billions more in funding after congressional Republicans approved a measure that would fund it until the end of President Donald Trump’s term.
The House on Tuesday voted along party lines,
214-212
, to pass a
$70 billion bill
that would fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol. The Senate approved the measure last week, so the bill now only needs Trump’s signature.
Its passage breaks a monthslong partisan impasse in Congress over immigration policy. Following the deaths of
Alex Pretti
and
Renee Good
at the hands of federal agents in Minnesota earlier this year, Democrats sought to block additional funding for ICE and Border Patrol—at least not without codifying reforms to immigration enforcement. The result: a
75-day partial government shutdown
affecting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
That shutdown largely ended in April, when Trump signed a bill funding DHS agencies that didn’t fall under immigration enforcement, as both parties in Congress tried to negotiate the details of separate funding for ICE and Border Patrol. But those negotiations…

PresidentDonald Trumpon Wednesday signed a$70 billion billto fund immigration enforcement agencies through the end of his term.
The package to pay for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection passed out ofCongressin the last week aftermonths of debate and delaysamid Democratic concerns about overly aggressive immigration enforcement.
At a signing ceremony in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump said the bill would "give the heroes of ICE and border patrol ... the support and resources they need to defend our borders, protect our homeland and to keep America safe."
Democratshad refused to fund the twoDepartment of Homeland Securitysubagencies since January, when an immigration surge in Minneapolis led to the deaths oftwo U.S. citizensat the hands of federal agents.
Republicans, in response to Democratic opposition, pursued a congressional process known asbudget reconciliation, which allows for the party-line passage of controversial spending and budgetary measures with a simple majority in the Senate, as opposed to the 60 votes normally needed to overcome a filibuster.

WASHINGTON (AP) --A bill to provide nearly $70 billion for immigration enforcement narrowly passed the House on Tuesday and now goes to President Donald Trump for his signature, fueling the administration's deportation agenda for the remainder of his time in the White House. Republicans used their majority to get the bill over the finish line, funding a pair of Homeland Security agencies through the next three years. The bill passed by a vote of 214-212, over the objections of Democrats.
NOTE:The video is from a previous report.
The White House says the bill will provide $38 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, $26 billion for the Border Patrol and another $5 billion to cover unforeseen costs. It frontloads routine annual funding, ensuring a virtually uninterrupted flow of money as the Trump administration seeks to deport some 1 million people per year.
Speaker Mike Johnson needed near-perfect attendance and unity on his side to complete weeks of action. The legislation got sidetracked over $1 billion for White House security, including for Trump's new ballroom, and a $1.8 billion fund to compens…

TheSenatehas approved $70 billion in funding forDonald Trump's immigration crackdown in a major victory for the President after days of Republican infighting.
The bill passed 52 to 37 shortly before 5am Friday, with Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski ofAlaskavoting with Democrats against the measure.
The legislation funds Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol through the rest of Trump's term, handing the President a big win on one of his signature issues.
It now heads to the House where Republican leaders hope to move it early next week to land on Trump's Resolute Desk.
GOPrebels, who'd threatened to kill the bill unless it included language explicitly banning Trump's $1.776 billion 'Anti-Weaponization Fund', ultimately backed down.
The administration was dropping the fund, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told GOP senators this week, but hours later Trump declined to echo that commitment, instead calling it 'a beautiful thing.'
Rebels decided in the end that it was more impo…

House Republicans cleared a $70 billion reconciliation package Tuesday to fund immigration enforcement agencies for the rest of President Donald Trump’s term.
On a party-line vote of 214-212, the House cleared the reconciliation bill that the Senate passed last week. Independent Kevin Kiley of California, who caucuses with the Republicans, voted no.
Final passage of the measure brings to an end a monthslong partisan stalemate over immigration enforcement funding.
After immigration agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis last winter, Democrats insisted on imposing new policy restrictions to advance fiscal 2026 Homeland Security funding. Republicans resisted the curbs, saying they would hamstring the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement crackdown.
The two parties eventually agreed to fund the Department of Homeland Security except for Immigration and Cus…
