The Centre has nearly doubled its allocation to Andhra Pradesh under the PM-SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme in 2024–25, marking a 120 per cent increase over the previous year when the state was under YSR Congress Party rule.
The state education department cited information received by TDP MPs GM Harish Balayogi and Putta Mahesh Kumar, who had raised questions in the Lok Sabha on August 4 regarding the district-wise details of PM-SHRI schools established inAndhra Pradeshand the funds allocated over the past three years.
The Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary said Andhra Pradesh was sanctioned Rs 354.85 crore under the scheme in 2023–24, with Rs 212.91 crore coming from the Centre. For 2024-25, the sanctioned outlay rose to Rs 782.39 crore, with the Centre contributing Rs 469.43 crore.
For the current financial year, 2025–26, the outlay stands at Rs 555.76 crore, of which Rs 333.46 crore is the Central share, as per official information published on the Lok Sabha website.
The move signals a renewed push by the NDA government to upgrade school infrastructure in the state.

New Delhi: A total of 6,448 schools from 28 states and Union territories have been selected for upgradation under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme, with maximum institutions being from Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra, officials familiar with the development said on Tuesday.
In September last year, the Union Cabinet approved the₹27,360-crore scheme for upgradation of 14,500 schools across the country over the next five years. The scheme is expected to benefit 1.8 million students and ensure that schools serve as model institutes and encapsulate the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
More than 200,000 eligible schools from across the country had applied for the first round of upgradation under the scheme through an online portal launched by the Union education ministry last November.
Officials at the ministry said the selection process for the first round of PM-SHRI schools was completed during a meeting of the expert committee for selection held last month.

Chennai, May 18 : Preparations for the reopening of schools after the summer vacation emerged as one of the priorities of the new Tamil Nadu government, as Chief Minister Vijay held key consultations with School Education Minister Rajmohan and senior officials at the Secretariat in Chennai.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD 182.89 million financing package, equivalent to about Rs1,742.27 crore, to support Karnataka's efforts to expand and strengthen Karnataka Public Schools (KPS), giving a fillip to the state's flagship government school transformation programme.

HYDERABAD:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the showpiece Telangana Public School at Arutla in Ranga Reddy district on Wednesday, where 1,814 students from pre-primary to Intermediate are enrolled. The government says the campus will offer English-medium education, free transport, three meals a day, digital classrooms, laboratories and sports facilities.
Revanth Reddy is scheduled to reach Arutla at 9.30 am and unveil the school pylon. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Thursday, September 25, announced a free breakfast scheme for children in government schools that will be introduced from the coming academic year. CM Revanth said that the scheme was inspired by the success of the breakfast scheme implemented in Tamil Nadu, which pushed more children to attend school.
Speaking at the ‘Kalviyil Sirantha Tamil Nadu’ event in Chennai, Revanth praised Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and added that Telangana will introduce nursery and kindergarten classes in government schools while also providing transportation facilities for school going children.
The Telangana CM also announced that the state would provide cash assistance of Rs 2,000 per month to students of Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs), inspired by TN’s Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan schemes that offer Rs 1,000 as monthly assistance to government school students pursuing higher education.
