78% older persons experienced at least one climate-related hazard in past 3 years
78% older persons experienced at least one climate-related hazard in past 3 years While most affected by heatwaves stay indoors (90%) and increase water intake (81%), illness still rises (74%), existing conditions worsen (44%), and healthcare access becomes difficult (33%). Released on Monday to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day observed each year on June 15, the study calls for focus on "Climate Resilient Ageing: Ensuring Care, Dignity and Agency".

A framework for ageing and health vulnerabilities in a changing climate ... Subjects Climate change Environmental health Research data Sociology Abstract The twenty-first century will witness historically unprecedented shares of older adult populations with an unfolding set of health-related challenges associated with climate change. Building on existing evidence that focuses on climate–ageing, ageing–health and health–climate connections, this Review summarizes ageing trends and the biophysical, socio-demographic, cultural and contextual pathways that shape the disproportionate impacts of climate-related environmental stress on older adults’ health. We propose a framework to conceptualize how these many factors intersect with climate stressors to impact the health of older adults. We also discuss knowledge gaps and suggest ways to improve social and health science research and data infrastructure. Why older people are some of those worst affected by climate change
Why older people are some of those worst affected by climate change shutterstock. While we are all affected to some extent by extreme weather, it is older adults, especially older women and those with disabilities, who tend to be the most vulnerable. Who struggles most is partly determined by age but also pre-existing health conditions , mental wellbeing, and social and economic circumstances. As weather extremes are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change, the world’s population is getting older. This poses a significant global challenge. In 2030, around one out of every six people worldwide will be 60 or older. By that time, this age group is expected to number 1.4 billion and will increase to 2.1 billion by 2050. Unfortunately, many older people lack the physical, mental, social, and financial resources needed to avoid or minimise the effects of extreme weather, especially in the global south. We know heatwaves can be deadly for older people due to a reduced ability to regulate body temperature in old age, for instance. This is made worse by chronic health conditions such as cardiovascular and respiratory disease, diabetes and susceptibility to dehydration. In …

Climate Change and Aging
Climate Change and Aging Climate change is one of the most pressing global challenges of our time, negatively affecting health by producing extreme weather events, increasing communicable diseases, and jeopardizing access to food, water, and clean air. Although everyone is impacted by changes in the environment, people over 60 are particularly susceptible to the health impacts of climate change. Understanding the intersection of climate change and aging is essential for creating policies and solutions that protect the health and well-being of older populations. People over 60 are often more vulnerable to the effects of climate change due to a combination of physical and social factors. The following are key reasons why older populations are at greater risk: Older people face increased health risks during and after natural disasters and extreme weather events. They are more likely to depend on caregivers and medical systems that can collapse during natural disasters. During evacuations, it is difficult to transport the medicines and medical equipment that some older adults may require. Additionally, older adults are particularly vulnerable to power outages, which can impact acces…

No verdict, no pronouncement. The model extracts atomic factual claims with verbatim quotes; every quote is validated against the source text and corroboration is computed by counting how many editorially-opposed blocs assert each fact. 2 fabricated/unverifiable quotes were rejected by the cite-or-die gate.
