President Ruto Opens Ngong Road Flyover to Ease Nairobi Traffic
President William Ruto on Monday officially opened the Ngong Road flyover, marking the completion of a major road project aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors.
The KSh3.58 billion overpass, built by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), is expected to improve traffic flow at the busy Ngong Road–Naivasha Road junction near Junction Mall, an area long associated with heavy congestion during peak hours.
The project was financed through a loan from Spain’s Corporate International Fund (FIEM) and forms part of wider efforts to improve mobility within the capital.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, President Ruto said the new infrastructure reflects the government’s commitment to expanding road networks that support economic growth and reduce travel delays for commuters.
KURA said the flyover introduces grade separation at the junction, allowing through traffic to move without stopping at intersections. The agency added that the project also includes dedicated non-motorised transport facilities, providing safer space for pedestrians and cyclists.
