Editor’s note: This is a developing story and will be updated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, the President's Office told reporters on June 14.
The call lasted about 30 minutes, during which Zelensky congratulated Trump on his birthday, according to the President's Office. The two leaders also discussed Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine and prospects for a peace settlement.
More details about the call are expected to be released by the President's Office shortly.
The call took place days before Trump is expected to take part in a
G7 working session
with Zelensky in France on June 16.

US President Donald Trump
on Sunday, during which he congratulated him on his 80th birthday and discussed bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington, according to the Kremlin.
During the conversation, which lasted just under an hour, Trump once again called for an end to the
war in Ukraine
, Kremlin aide Yri Ushakov said.
They also agreed that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would visit Russia again in the near future, Ushakov said. Putin told Trump that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants a meeting, he should come to Moscow – an offer that Zelensky has consistently rejected.
Trump informed Putin that an agreement in the war between the US and Iran is imminent and may be announced later Sunday, the Kremlin handout said.

In response to Zarubin's question about Trump's comments suggesting there may have been more than two calls, Peskov said that only the calls they were aware of had been made public.

US President, Donald Trump has expressed renewed optimism about the prospects of ending the war in Ukraine, saying negotiations are progressing and that a peace agreement is“much closer than people realise”as he prepares to discuss the conflict with allied leaders at the upcoming NATO summit.
Speaking to reporters in the US, Trump said that he believes both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy now want to bring the more than four-year conflict to an end.
“We are getting much closer than people realise. President Putin wants it to end. I will tell you that very strongly. What a good call. And President Zelenskyy actually wants it to end now.”
Trump said that Ukraine would be a major focus of discussions at the NATO summit, where leaders are expected to examine continued military support for Kyiv, European security and efforts to bring an end to the war.
“We’re going to be going to NATO, and we’re going to be talking about it, and we, I think, we’re going to get it, I think we’re going to get it ended. We are getting close to getting it done.”

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan 22 (Reuters) – Finnish President Alexander Stubb said on Thursday U.S. President Donald Trump is putting pressure on Russia over the war in Ukraine and argued that conditions are evolving favourably from the perspective of western powers.
Speaking after the United States and Europe stepped back from a row over Greenland, Stubb said efforts to craft a peace deal had gained strength since Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner began complementing U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s own endeavours.

It seemed, at least superficially, to have been one of the better face-to-face meetings between Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, their sixth in a year that has seen this relationship fray to breaking point and require regular and painstaking repairs.

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Donald Trump on a July 4 call lasting nearly 90 minutes in which the US leader again offered to help end the Ukraine war, according to Russia’s foreign ministry.
The call came ahead of a critical NATO summit in Turkey starting Tuesday that the US president plans to attend and as Russian forces stepped up efforts to take more of Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region - a key objective for the Kremlin.
Ukraine meanwhile has continued to target Russian energy infrastructure.
Putin personally congratulated Trump “and the entire American people on this significant holiday” — the 250th anniversary of the US declaration of independence — the foreign ministry said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with
US President Donald Trump
on Sunday, during which he congratulated him on his 80th birthday and discussed bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington, according to the Kremlin.
During the conversation, which lasted just under an hour, Trump once again called for an end to the
war in Ukraine
, Kremlin aide Yri Ushakov said.
They also agreed that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would visit Russia again in the near future, Ushakov said. Putin told Trump that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants a meeting, he should come to Moscow – an offer that Zelensky has consistently rejected.
Trump informed Putin that an agreement in the war between the US and Iran is imminent and may be announced later Sunday, the Kremlin handout said.

Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, congratulated President Trump on taking office, calling him "a man of strength." He said Ukrainians are ready to work with Americans to achieve "true peace."

US President Donald Trump called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss the Ukraine conflict, the situation around Iran, and the prospects for restoring bilateral ties, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov has said.
The conversation took place on Saturday, as the United States marked the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone call Thursday, with the Kremlin
describing
the conversation as “businesslike and straight-to-the-point,” adding that the two leaders were “on the same wavelength.”

the call during a visit to an exhibition of Russian brands, where he told a vendor that he would “definitely suggest” Trump promote Russian products on the American market. Trump later
confirmed
the planned conversation on Truth Social.
The call lasted nearly an hour and covered a wide range of topics, according to Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov. These included ongoing peace talks to end the war in Ukraine, Syria, the recent exchange of airstrikes between Israel and Iran, as well as a proposed “exchange” of films promoting “traditional values.”
Ushakov said Putin also congratulated Trump ahead of U.S. Independence Day on July 4.

US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism on progress in bringing the war in Ukraine to an end following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump said talks to end the war were "getting much closer than people realise".
"And President Putin wants it to end. I will tell you that very strongly. Good call, and President Zelenskiy actually wants it to end now," he said in reference to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during an event at the White House.
"I had a very good call, and I think ... we're getting close to getting it done," Trump said.
Speaking ahead of a NATO summit starting in Ankara on Tuesday, Trump said: "And we're going to be going to NATO and we're going to be talking about it and we, I think, we're going to get it. I think we're going to get it ended."
The Kremlin said on Monday that Putin and Trump had agreed in a weekend call that they would talk again "in the near future," suggesting they are likely to talk this week during or after the NATO summit.

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, during which he congratulated him on his 80th birthday and discussed bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington, according to the Kremlin.

US President Donald Trump spoke with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the conflict in Ukraine ahead of a NATO summit in Ankara, the Kremlin and Mr Zelensky have said.

Trump welcomes Zelenskyy's call on Putin to hold meeting to end war
US President Donald Trump on Thursday welcomed the prospect of direct talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying the two leaders should meet and make compromises to end the war.
"I'm glad that they're maybe talking about meeting. I think we had a lot to do with it," Trump said, hours after an open letter in which Zelenskyy proposed direct talks with Putin. "I think it would be great if they met. They should get it done."
Trump said both sides would need to make concessions to end the war and argued that his administration has played a significant role in encouraging diplomacy.
"They're going to make compromises. I suggested those compromises, and we've had a lot to do with it," he said.
"They've got to stop," he said. "Last month they had 25,000 people killed, soldiers, mostly soldiers. It's been averaging probably almost 25,000 people every month of soldiers killed."
