Oil prices edge higher after Iran strikes on Israel
Oil prices climbed on Monday morning trade in Asia after Iran fired missiles at Israel for the first time since a fragile ceasefire was agreed between the countries and the US in April.
The price of the global benchmark Brent jumped by 2.6% to $95.50 (£71.60) a barrel, while US-traded crude rose by 2.5% to $92.75.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that the attacks are the start of “a full week” of strikes.
US President Donald Trump has reportedly told news outlet Axios that he will urge Israel “not to retaliate”, despite the country’s military saying it will “strike the enemy” as soon as the order is given.
“I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate,” Trump told Axios, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We are very close to a final deal with Iran. It is going to be a good deal. I don’t want it to blow up because of what is happening now,” the president is quoted as saying.
A ceasefire agreement has been in force since 17 April and has been violated repeatedly by both Israel and Iran.

Oil prices rise more than 2% as Israel steps up incursion into Lebanon
BEIJING - Oil prices rose more than 2 per cent in early trading on Monday (June 1) after Israel ordered troops to move further into Lebanon in the battle with the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group, despite a ceasefire announced more than six weeks ago.
US crude futures rose US$2.37 (S$3.03) or 2.71 per cent to US$89.73 a barrel as of 0028 GMT (8:28am Singapore time). Brent futures rose US$2.16 or 2.37 per cent to US$93.28 a barrel.
The stepped-up fighting, coming just after the US hosted Israeli-Lebanon peace talks in Washington on Friday, dimmed expectations that the US and Iran could soon announce an extension to their ceasefire agreement, which had driven Brent and WTI to settle up 1.8 per cent and 1.7 per cent, respectively, on Friday.
The Israel-Lebanon conflict has been the broadest spillover of the Iran war. It started on March 2 when Hezbollah began firing rockets and drones across the border into Israel to back its ally Iran.
The two sides reached a ceasefire in mid-April but have continued to trade fire.

Oil prices have increased as strikes in Israel challenge the ceasefire agreement.
The price of oil has shown a modest increase following airstrikes in Israel, which are testing the脆弱的停火协议. International markets are closely monitoring developments, with concerns over supply security driving the upward movement in oil prices. According to reports from BBC News, the situation remains tense as both sides assess the implications of the recent strikes.
The latest escalation in Israel has raised questions about the stability of global energy supplies. Analysts suggest that any prolonged disruption could lead to significant volatility in the oil markets. Neighboring regions are on hi…

Oil prices ease as Iran and Israel pause attacks; Brent, WTI retreat from recent highs
Oil prices dipped Tuesday as Iran and Israel paused attacks, easing immediate supply disruption fears. This followed a sharp rise on Monday amid renewed Middle East tensions. Despite the de-escalation, concerns linger over the Strait of Hormuz and Houthi actions impacting Red Sea shipping. OPEC+ agreed to boost output, but analysts doubt its effectiveness due to production struggles.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Oil markets currently closed for the weekend are set to see price swings next week as theimpact from the U.S. and Israeli strikeson oil supplies from the Middle East remains unclear.
Scenarios before the latest conflict with Iran foresaw a quick price spike that fades if the attacks didn’t affect oil shipping and infrastructure such as Iranian pipelines and its Kharg island terminal. However, there would be a bigger price spike and longer-lasting impact if oil infrastructure or supplies were interrupted, for instance because of disruption of tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

European markets opened lower and oil prices rose on Monday morning as investors monitored the latest escalation in the Middle East.
Crude oil prices climbed in early trade as Israel launched airstrikes on Monday targeting central and western Iran in response to missile fire. Iranian state television reported the sound of explosions being heard in Isfahan, Tabriz and Tehran, without immediately elaborating.
