The Italian government has condemned US president Donald Trump’s claim that prime minister Giorgia Meloni had “begged” for a photo with him during the recent G7 summit, a pushback that suggested the longtime US ally had had enough of Mr Trump’s boasting.
Italian foreign minister Antonio Tajani abruptly cancelled a planned trip to the United States this weekend, calling Mr Trump’s claims “serious and offensive” toward Ms Meloni and all of Italy.
For her part, Ms Meloni posted a video calling Mr Trump’s claims “completely fabricated”, which she concluded with: “Italy and I do not beg.”
Mr Trump had made the comments in an interview broadcast on Friday morning on the La7 network.

Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni "begged" him to take a photo with
her at this week's G7 summit.
At the start of the interview, Trump immediately steered the
conversation towards Meloni, asking "how is your prime minister?
"What did she say when she met me? She's probably happy I talked
to her," he added.
"I didn't have to talk to her. I don't know what to say.

President Donald Trump on Saturday denounced Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saying that she asked “over and over” for a photo with him at the recent G7 summit and criticising what he said was Italy’s lack of co-operation during the Iran war.
The remarks deepen the spat that began this week with the Republican president’s interview with an Italian broadcaster, during which Mr Trump claimed Ms Meloni “begged” for the photo during the G7 meeting in France.
Ms Meloni has called that “completely fabricated”.
The row led Italy’s foreign minister to cancel a planned trip to the United States as Ms Meloni’s government lined up in her defence.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has accused President Trump of fabricating a story that she "begged" him for a photo at the G7 summit, in a stunning public break between the two leaders once considered allies.
"Donald Trump's statements are completely fabricated. I am frankly stunned," Meloni said

President Donald Trump on Saturday denounced Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saying that she asked “over and over” for a photo with him at the recent G7 summit and criticising what he said was Italy’s lack of co-operation during the Iran war.
The remarks deepen the spat that began this week with the Republican president’s interview with an Italian broadcaster, during which Mr Trump claimed Ms Meloni “begged” for the photo during the G7 meeting in France.
Ms Meloni has called that “completely fabricated”.
The row led Italy’s foreign minister to cancel a planned trip to the United States as Ms Meloni’s government lined up in her defence.

The Italian government has condemned US president Donald Trump’s claim that prime minister Giorgia Meloni had “begged” for a photo with him during the recent G7 summit, a pushback that suggested the longtime US ally had had enough of Mr Trump’s boasting.
Italian foreign minister Antonio Tajani abruptly cancelled a planned trip to the United States this weekend, calling Mr Trump’s claims “serious and offensive” toward Ms Meloni and all of Italy.
For her part, Ms Meloni posted a video calling Mr Trump’s claims “completely fabricated”, which she concluded with: “Italy and I do not beg.”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has accused President Trump of fabricating a story that she "begged" him for a photo at the G7 summit, in a stunning public break between the two leaders once considered allies.
"Donald Trump's statements are completely fabricated. I am frankly stunned," Meloni said
in a video posted on X
Friday. "I don't know why the president of the United States behaves like this toward his own allies. After all, it is not the first time."
She added: "I can only say it's a shame he doesn't show the same resolve toward with the enemies of the West and toward the enemies of the United States — toward leaders with whom he, on the other hand, is much more accommodating. But there is one thing he should remember: Italy and I do not beg."

The Italian government has condemned US president Donald Trump’s claim that prime minister Giorgia Meloni had “begged” for a photo with him during the recent G7 summit, a pushback that suggested the longtime US ally had had enough of Mr Trump’s boasting.
Italian foreign minister Antonio Tajani abruptly cancelled a planned trip to the United States this weekend, calling Mr Trump’s claims “serious and offensive” toward Ms Meloni and all of Italy.
For her part, Ms Meloni posted a video calling Mr Trump’s claims “completely fabricated”, which she concluded with: “Italy and I do not beg.”

WASHINGTON (TNND) —President Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni traded barbs after a photo was taken of them together at the G7 summit, as he said he doesn't want her to be his fan.
Trump appeared to refer to his demands for European allies to be more involved in the U.S.’s efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
The president's comment comes after Italy’s La7 TV channel published a translated interview between the journalist and Trump without playing the original audio.
“She’s probably happy I talked to her. I didn’t have to talk to her,” Trump was quoted as saying about Meloni in a brief interview,Reuters reported.
“She begged me to take a picture with her. She wanted a picture with me so badly. I wouldn’t have taken it, but I felt sorry for her,” he added, according to La7’s translation.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has accused President Trump of fabricating a story that she "begged" him for a photo at the G7 summit, in a stunning public break between the two leaders once considered allies.
"Donald Trump's statements are completely fabricated. I am frankly stunned," Meloni said
in a video posted on X
Friday. "I don't know why the president of the United States behaves like this toward his own allies. After all, it is not the first time."
She added: "I can only say it's a shame he doesn't show the same resolve toward with the enemies of the West and toward the enemies of the United States — toward leaders with whom he, on the other hand, is much more accommodating. But there is one thing he should remember: Italy and I do not beg."

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has accused President Trump of fabricating a story that she "begged" him for a photo at the G7 summit, in a stunning public break between the two leaders once considered allies.

ROME --The Italian government closed ranks on Friday to slam U.S. President Donald Trump over his claim that Premier Giorgia Meloni had “begged” for a photo with him during the recent G7 summit, a pushback that suggested America’s longtime European ally had had enough of Trump’s boasting and criticism.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani abruptly cancelled a planned trip to the United States this weekend, calling Trump’s claims “serious and offensive” toward Meloni and all of Italy. The Foreign Ministry later announced that the business and scientific forum Tajani was to attend in Miami had also been called off.
Meloni for her part posted a video calling Trump’s claims “completely fabricated" and expressing astonishment that he would invent such things about an ally.
“Italy and I do not beg,” she said pointedly.

WASHINGTON (TNND) —President Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni traded barbs after a photo was taken of them together at the G7 summit, as he said he doesn't want her to be his fan.
Trump appeared to refer to his demands for European allies to be more involved in the U.S.’s efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
The president's comment comes after Italy’s La7 TV channel published a translated interview between the journalist and Trump without playing the original audio.
“She’s probably happy I talked to her. I didn’t have to talk to her,” Trump was quoted as saying about Meloni in a brief interview,Reuters reported.
“She begged me to take a picture with her. She wanted a picture with me so badly. I wouldn’t have taken it, but I felt sorry for her,” he added, according to La7’s translation.
A video taken at theG7 summit, which took place earlier this week in Évian-les-Bains, France, showed Trump and Meloni talking while sitting on a couch, side by side.

President Donald Trump on Saturday denounced Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saying that she asked “over and over” for a photo with him at the recent G7 summit and criticising what he said was Italy’s lack of co-operation during the Iran war.

The dispute erupted after Trump told Italian broadcaster La7 that Meloni had pleaded with him for a photo at the meeting of leading industrialized nations in the French resort of Evian-les-Bains earlier this week.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has accused President Trump of fabricating a story that she "begged" him for a photo at the G7 summit, in a stunning public break between the two leaders once considered allies.
"Donald Trump's statements are completely fabricated. I am frankly stunned," Meloni said
in a video posted on X
Friday. "I don't know why the president of the United States behaves like this toward his own allies. After all, it is not the first time."

that Premier Giorgia Meloni had “begged” for a photo with him during the recent G7 summit, a pushback that suggested the longtime U.S. ally had had enough of Trump’s boasting.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani abruptly cancelled a planned trip to the United States this weekend, calling Trump’s claims “serious and offensive” toward Meloni and all of Italy.
Meloni for her part posted a video calling Trump’s claims “completely fabricated" and expressing astonishment that he would invent such things about an ally. She concluded: “Italy and I do not beg.”
